How to unlock the The Best Defense... achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

After defeating 'Blue', withstanding 'purple's navy attack early in the game, and starting an economy there r 2 ways to finish the remaining enemies. One I saw on YouTube - develop economy, get upgrades, and simultaneously make 2 land armies. send one to save 'yellow' and destroy the wonder made by 'orange'. the other one goes to the right destroying 'red's depots. Find and finish its various bases (there is one hidden in every corner even up north). 'Yellow' assists a little in attacking ur enemies n u get to trade with its market.
I did the easier one. I let 'Yellow' get defeated and sent a big army towards the right destroying 'Red', then Wonder by 'Orange'. You have to keep gathering resources and make a few houses (pop_lim is now 125), probably a siege workshop. u can get archery and stable from 'red' while destroying its depots.
Both ways you have to send ships to attack 'purple' and another strong army (consider 5 horse archers with 5 academy units or 5 war elephants) of 10 in a transport ship to finish 'purple'. When u have enough stone build 7-8 towers around 'cyan's wonder to protect it and avoid defeat (these builders can collect resources too from 'cyan's base). Do this early on in the game as the map is too large to rush suddenly for 'cyan'. u can trade with 'cyan's market and dock.
'Cyan's wonder makes this game time-based.

Some bonus tips I discovered while playing:
- You can bypass "time-based" variable. Build some towers around Cyan'a wonder during construction, wall up as much as you can - his vills will block the rest. Switch diplomacy to neutral, kill builders with your towers and finish blocking up wonder creation. If it's never finished you have infinite time to slowly deal with red/violet.
- Hoplites/Centurions are absoutely OP in this scenario. I just spammed them from the beginning :V Red was almost dead before I get to orange wonder. And I was even able to defend yellow, so cyan's base was never contested.
- ~15 triremas + 5 with catapult was enough to deal with Purple's wonder. When it's destroyed, he resignes. So there is no real need to destroy his base earlier what gives more resources to build up initial army.

Scenario was quite easy and achievement surprisingly satisfying, especially comparing to the 1st one, which almost made me give up this campaign :V

Blocking in Cyan's wonder made this so much easier. so short summary of how I got this

- after attack by blue/purple boom economy whilst creating hoplites/centurions and max research.
- quickly do the trick to prevent cyan from making a wonder.
- starting army raid the red villages for resources.
- move up along the coast towards orange while you have an army, to destroy their wonder. ( I did save yellow). when Orange's wonder is destroyed and Cyan can't finish theirs, take your time. Finish off orange and red, then purple as last

Supremely easy, and I'm not the best at this game.

0. Survive the initial fight, march your army north of the starting town, gathering the gaia troops, move to defend yellow. They are terrible but we want a buffer between us and red. If yellow falls too early this gets harder. As soon as we are past step three, it no longer matters, dealers choice.

1. Start your economy. I added 15 villagers, hardly needed any more. You want at least 12 on farms and 8 on gold, 3 on stone, the rest wood. Gold mine below, and gold/stone above, and to the right of your starting town. I built walls around the east gold/stone deposits so I didn't have to worry.
Upgrade watch tower to guard tower at the granary.

2. In said starting town, look at the eastern part of your base. You have a dock. Build a transport ship to move one villager over to cyan, our wonder building ally, while you get the food/gold to upgrade to centurions at the academy. There are no enemy ships between your dock and the cyan landing zone.

3. Build 2 guard towers near the wonder/town center of cyan. I recommend lowering the game speed because we need to micro manage for just a bit.
Switch diplomatic stance of cyan to "neutral". Target the villagers building the wonder, as your villager builds a wall around the wonder. Enclose it entirely. You will need your guard towers to kill a farm next to the wonder, thats fine.

4. With the wonder no longer able to be completed, mass centurions. You will, if you haven't see orange start a wonder yet, start one soon. Thats fine. You can walk from your base north with a mass of centurions and murder everything. With 30+ attack centurions make short work of buildings, gates, and oranges wonder. Orange will resign when the wonder is destroyed, so you have tons of time to massacre all of red.

5. Research catapult ships, build three of them, a few more triremes, and go harass purple to the west. They too will want to build a wonder, but if you destroy what buildings the catapult ships can reach, they will wait a long time.
So long, in fact, I was able to clear the main island of red before they even started.

You may wish to start your match by using the marco/polo cheat to see where all red is. (If you do, end your match, I played it safe and went back to campaigns and picked the level again)
You need to destroy all of their town centers to get them to resign. Two of them are in the fog of war to the north of their north/eastern most storage pit (optional task) and they have a few around orange. A few more in their fortified cities, but I found those with little trouble, the walls give them away.
The match will end as soon as you force your foes to resign. No need to open the wonder up to cyan at any point.

Happy hunting (>*_*)>

Now this needs more upvotes. Once you get the cyan wonder walled off, it takes away any need to rush. Just take your time from thereon out. It is a little finicky trying to get the wall around the wonder, but save right before hand and keep placing walls. Eventually you'll get one in the way of the farm before it can be rebuilt.
