How to unlock the Master of the Rus achievement in Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition - Definitive Guide
To complete the Rus Mastery, you have to complete 15 challenges whilst using this faction. These must be completed in order and you cannot advance to the next until the previous is complete. They will generally be based around the use of a local unit or ability and are generally self-explanatory, however, I will provide a few generic tips for the challenges first and the specific tips at the end of the solution;
- The game does not provide a tracker in the match as to how your progress is going so it's a bit of a guess as to when it will be completed. Check between games if needed.
- You can easily cheese a lot of the challenges by jumping straight into the correct Age from the custom games menu and doing the relevant task with the starting supplies.
- Setting the game up with NO A.I. allows you to peacefully develop towards certain challenges and have no enemies, the game also loads up much faster.
- Once you think you've completed the challenge, simply surrender the match, there's no need to win or wait to be defeated (unless the challenge is test of strength, in which you have to win against the A.I.).
- Achievement should pop right after the last challenge, for me that was in the score screen.
--------------------------------------
The Masteries menu can be found from the main single-player menu, then selecting the relevant Mastery. The challenges are as follows:
Challenge 1: Hunting Grounds
Accumulate 50 bounty by hunting Sheep, Deer, or Boar in the Dark Age (I).
Challenge 2: Foresters
Construct 4 lumber camps within the range of influence of a wooden fortress.
Challenge 3: Test of Strength I
Win a 1v1 Custom or Skirmish match against the Easy A.I.
Challenge 4: On the Wild Side
Accrue 250 gold from hunting cabins in the Dark Age (I).
Challenge 5: Birch Barricades
Construct 25 fortified palisade walls with villagers in the Dark Age (I).
Challenge 6: Frontier Trading
Use the Golden Gate landmark to make 5 trades in the Feudal Age (II).
Challenge 7: Test of Strength II
Win a 1v1 Custom or Skirmish match against the Intermediate A.I.
Challenge 8: Day and Knight
Defeat 15 enemies with Early Knights in the Feudal Age (II).
Challenge 9: Divinity
Defeat 30 enemies with units affected by Saint's Blessing.
Challenge 10: Mount the Attack
Research Boyar's Fortitude and Mounted Precision and then defeat 30 enemies with cavalry.
Challenge 11: Test of Strength III
Win a 1v1 Custom or Skirmish match against the Hard A.I.
Challenge 12: Lay Siege
Research two upgrades from the High Armory and produce 20 siege engines in the Imperial Age (IV).
Challenge 13: Black Powder
Research Double Time from the Archery Range and defeat 30 enemies with Streltsy.
Challenge 14: Ours is the Glory
Achieve a Sacred Victory with fully upgraded Warrior Monks.
Challenge 15: Test of Strength IV
Win a 1v1 Custom or Skirmish match against the Hardest A.I.
--------------------------------------
Challenge 4: On the Wild Side
Build as many Hunting Cabins near trees, but spread them out. They accumulate gold over time.
Challenge 6: Frontier Trading
Start in the Dark Age (I) and build the landmark: "Golden Gate" once in the Feudal Age (II), make a trade in that building. It refreshes every minute. Once you've done five you can surrender.
Challenge 9: Divinity
Just mix in a few warrior monks in your army, they'll heal your army I think that is what you need to do.
Challenge 10: Mount the Attack
"Boyar's fortitude" can be researched in the stable while "Mounted Precision" can be researched in the archery range
Challenge 12: Lay Siege
Start in age (III) and build the landmark: "High Armory" once in the Imperial Age (IV), research two researches in the High Armory building. Once at least two are done build Siege Workshops and pomp out units. I researched all and build a variety of every unit from the Siege Workshop just to be save.
Challenge 13: Black Powder
Start in age (IV) build the archery range, research: "Double Time", and then spam a lot of Streltsy and kill a lot of units. I am not sure if you need to use the "Double Time" ability but I did anyway.
Challenge 14: Ours is the Glory
Start in age (II) and build the landmark: "Abby of the Trinity", then research everything in that building. Go up to age (IV) after that and research everything again in that building. Once that is done train the warrior monks and take hold of the sacred sites on the map. I did research everything before the 10 minute of holding the sacred sites for the victory just to be safe.

Challenge 6: Frontier Trading
Start in the Dark Age (I) and build the landmark: "Golden Gate" once in the Feudal Age (II), build a or multiple markets and then a bunch of traders and send them to a neutral market on the map. Once 5 trades have completed this challenge is completed and you can surrender.
This is incorrect. You simple just need to purchase 5 items from the Golden Gate. It only refreshes once every 1 minute. There is an icon down below the health section for the building called supplies. It generates 1 supply every minute. You can just wait until you have 5 and spend them all at once.
