How to unlock the Counter-Raider achievement in Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition - Definitive Guide

(Others have said the achievements may not unlock if you pay the Danes off and then loot the treasure. Make sure to destroy and loot the camp on your first play through without paying them to be safe. Restart the mission if you already paid the Danes by accident)

This achievement can be acquired in mission 2 York. Eventually, during the mission, you will be attacked by Danes. The narrator will tell you that you can either pay them off or attack them. Once you have a decent-sized army move West towards the Dane camp. Break down their gate and destroy their units. There will be a few gold chests with a few Danes at the camp. Simply pick them up using any military unit or hero. After a few seconds, you will unlock this achievement.

Looks missable, because I payed them initially off, but at a retry achievement did not unlock

Yeah same, how annoying..... I reloaded a save before I paid them off and destroyed them instead, no achievement. Did not try restart the entire mission though.

Good to know is that you need to have captured Fulford before getting the prompt to either pay the Danes off or destroy their camp. If you go straight up to them and destroy their camp before that (as I did), you won't get rewarded with the achievement...

Did you pay the Danes on your first attempt? Try doing a different mission and then hop back into this one at a later time. I've had people mention some achievements just wont unlock no matter how many times they've attempted it.

Same to me. I did not pay, destroy their camp, loot then the treasures…no achievement.

I played from the start of the level, didn't pay them, destroyed every item of the camp and looted the treasure. No achievement.

This could be completely due to lag, but the second time I attempted this, the achievement popped right after I targeted and destroyed each segment of palisade wall in the Danish camp.

First time i've passed this mission in the lowest difficulty and the achievement didn't unlock.
Then I just restarted the mission in Hard difficulty, destroyed the camp and picked chests. In few seconds the achievement unlocked.

I believe changing the difficulty is one way of 100% restarting the level without the game thinking you may have loaded a save. I got most of the achievements on the easy difficulty.

The North York mission is the 2nd mission of ''The Normans'' campaign. After you take over the second town, the Danish will raid you continuously, the game will give you a choice between sending a gold tribute of 1200 gold or destroying them. Before attacking them, make sure you have a big army with a lot cavalry to counter their infantry. After you beat them, 2 chests with 300 gold in each of them will be available to grab inside the Danish camp (watch the video below at 21:00 for reference).
