But you can turn it off the Options menu (in the Main Menu --> Help and Options -> Gameplay) - you can easily do it while you are getting the Sole Survivor Achievement + a few others in a survival match

This achievement may seem challenging but it isn't! This guide isn't much of a way for you to do this alone, but instead of getting another friend and wasting their time I can tell you how to do this on your own (technically random people doing it for you).
Just like King Fish says, make sure auto building is all OFF!
After that is accomplished search for random people in 3v3 skirmish. Now what are you hunting for? Anyone with a ULTIMATE FUEL TANK. If you find anyone with one of those then start the match with them and don't do anything.

Creech
Before attempting this achievement, from the main menu select Help & Options -> Gameplay and scroll down to the bottom. You will need to turn auto builder off (it should not have a check mark next to it). This is because the Auto Builder feature will often purchase abilities for you, voiding this achievement.
The ability menu is accessed in a match by holding 
. You will need to get to in-match level 10 and win the game without ever purchasing any of the items in the ability menu. You ARE permitted to purchase units, so this can be easily done with or without a partner in any game mode as long as you win.

The easiest approach is with a partner in a PvP Custom 1x1 match where you build units and capture bases until you are level 10 and then either have your partner quit or destroy their fortress.
