How to unlock the If It Flies, It Burns achievement in Alan Wake Remastered - Definitive Guide
The best place is on chapter 5 after you fall off the chopper. Just kill the dumb birds. And then revert back the check point until achievement is your.
Just want to confirm that if you do not finish this in core game you can unlock it while playing the add ons. I finished the main game with about 800 or so birds killed. I just unlocked the achievement while playing through The Signal.
No need to spam this one. This achievement should come naturally just by playing through the story. I unlocked it before finishing the final chapter on easy, but if you're short a few, you can quickly reach 1,001 bird kills in Chapter 2 on your next playthrough.
If you're feeling generous with ammo, feel free to pop a flare gun round into an approaching bird formation to take out a bunch in one go. Your inventory gets stripped from you often enough that you probably won't miss a few flare rounds (unless you're on Nightmare, where every flare is precious.)

I had about 880 birds burned at the end of my normal playthrough. I used chapter select to play through Chapter 2, part 2.
Progress through the level until the end at the cabin and then just farm the birds via checkpoint reload.
Takes about 20-25mins to reach the cabin from the start point.

For this trophy you will need to burn 1,000 birds total. If you need to check how many birds you have burned, just pause the game, select Statistics, and look for birds killed.
I used this method to complete this trophy after finishing the campaign. I had a little over 900 birds burned playing on normal:
From the main menu: go to episodes -> easy -> Episode 5: The Clicker -> Night Life in Bright Falls
After exiting the sheriff's office, the sheriff will ask you to help unlock the main exit gate of the parking lot. You need to head towards the opposite direction of the sheriff, veer slightly right toward the grassy backlot. Jump over the picket fence, go through the opening in the fenced gate, and pull the lever to release the ladder to climb up the building. Once you climb up the building you will need to climb a second ladder and then you will drop down to the lower roof. From here about three waves of crows will attack Alan, just shine your flashlight at the crows. After burning all the birds, just jump off the side of the building to respawn. When you respawn, you are back at the ladder. Rinse and repeat. This method should net you around 50+ birds burned for each cycle.

There is a good chance that you can get this in an entire playthrough of the game. I managed to pass the 1,000 mark in the closing hours of the game. My advice, don't run off from the birds, stick around and try to take them all out. If that fails and you don't make it by the end, simply load up the end of Episode 2 where the birds are attacking Barry in the house, and just rinse and repeat. Or you could easily do the bird attack at the end of episode 2 and then restart checkpoint to kill them all again. If you're doing two playthroughs though (Normal and Nightmare), then this should be easy anyway.
Good tactics? Obviously the boosted torch is effective, but so is a direct hit with the flaregun or a quick flare when they are near-by.

Almost at the very end of the second chapter, when you return to the house where Barry is hiding, you will need to fight off flocks of birds when Alan says “Barry? You can already open it. They are no longer there,” restart the CT and go through this place again, 200-250 birds at a time, if you shoot at the piles with a flare gun.

In total, you need to destroy 1,000 birds, then the trophy will drop. You can monitor the number of birds destroyed in the game pause menu, in the “Statistics” tab.

There is no point in boosting in one place. Easy to get in one playthrough. Just whenever possible, when flocks of birds attack you, highlight them with a flashlight or use a flare. Got the trophy on Chapter 5 on the dam. And so there will still be flocks ahead in the 6th. Therefore, it is more or less possible to get the trophy by the end of the game.
