How to unlock the An Idyllic Small Town achievement in Alan Wake Remastered - Definitive Guide

This really isn't too difficult. What you need to do is to make it from the police station to the fire station helicopter without dying/restarting. So if you're going for this achievement, either continue playing past Chapter 4 (Where Ch 5 starts with "Previously on Alan Wake") or start fresh from the main menu.

It can be done on any difficulty, but if you're just going for the achievement, you can do it on Easy. You start with Sheriff Breaker and she's armed with a flashlight and pump-action shotgun. Other than one or two brief instances, she's with you for the whole level. Let her do the shooting to conserve ammo and reduce the risk of you dying while you use your flashlight. Even if the Taken are still cloaked in darkness, her shotgun (and yours) knock back enemies and will give you breathing room should you get overwhelmed. For bigger enemies, use Boosted light or a flare. Also if you've played the level a few times or are practicing for Nightmare, try back-running to Safe Havens and leave your allies behind. Enemies despawn when you hit a Haven and your allies can catch up. Supplies are in abundance in this game, even on Nightmare, so pop a flare if you're taking too much damage or are getting surrounded. You lose almost all of your supplies after the helicopter, so use and abuse what you have to make this even easier.

There are a few tricky spots that might catch you out if you're not expecting it. Never hesitate to backtrack and use Boosted light and let Breaker take point to clear an area. The first spot that gets a little overwhelming is the gate just past the white picket fence that the Sheriff has to unlock. There are two waves to deal with, the second of which has a Chainsaw Taken. Deal with any fast Taken, and spam Boosted light on the big guy. Burn through 2-3 batteries as needed and if he or any others get too close for comfort, pop a flare. Breaker will help out, so it's not too overwhelming, but the mix of fast Taken and the Chainsaw Taken can make things a little tricky.

The next spot is the Church basement. There are two Heavy Taken down there. Not usually challenging, but the basement is close quarters and pretty dark. Take it slow and take them out as they appear. A quick method is to hit both with a Flare Gun round when they both appear.

When you get to the helicopter, there are tons more supplies littered around. Use everything you have to keep the enemies away as you'll be fighting 3-4 waves on your own. Start by turning on both spotlights and every time you get breathing room, turn them on again even if they're still "on". This will remove the Darkness from the Taken without you using your flashlight and batteries. Get used to toggling between Flares and Flashbangs (both Down on D-Pad) and use them as you see fit. Four or five enemies in front of you? Throw the Flashbang and press down on the D-Pad. The Taken are either wiped out or lose their protection and you have a Flare ready if you need it.

Try and keep your back at the helicopter and stay on the platform in between turning on the spotlights, and especially between waves as possessed items are thrown at you but don't land on the platform (How lucky). Use the Revolver to hit the red canisters when enemies are near them but don't rely on them and don't worry if you miss, just keep your head on a swivel. Around wave three, enemies spawn on the Fire Station roof to the left, too. Use everything, Flares, Flashes, Boosted light, Shotgun/Hunting Rifle. Just keep yourself alive and keep moving to avoid thrown items. A quick tap of LT will auto-lock a nearby enemy and give a quick shot of Boosted light. Use this to make sure no one gets too close.

Halfway through the fourth wave, Breaker will tell you it's time to go, so back up to the heli, and during the cutscene, the achievement will pop. Sorry for the long-ish guide, but I like to be thorough as I can.

Any feedback is welcome. If you leave negative, please say what it is, I'm here to learn and improve as well as help.

I did it on my first play through the campaign on normal, but didn’t get the achievement. It looks pretty buggy. So I need to restart the level, that’s annoying tbh

Same for me. Didn't die and no achievement.

Thanks for the detailed guide @VideoGameOrb!

I can confirm that starting this level from the 'Episodes' section of the main menu and completing it in one run popped the achievement for me. I can only assume others that had trouble with it had perhaps exited the game after episode 4, and therefore it hadn't tracked it as a 'complete' run through the start of episode 5.

Just another note, I started this yesterday, mid way through the mission I turned my console off, then continued today and finished the mission and it just popped

*MISSABLE*

Rather than make a video for this one, I'm going to give a brief rundown of potential sticky parts and what to do.

If you're loading up an episode to do it, it's Episode 5, the first chapter, "Night Life in Bright Falls." If you prepare and don't waste powerful weapons, then there aren't many tricky moments. The two potential tricky spots are:

The church defence and the helicopter defence; one mid-mission and one at the end. In order to unlock the achievement you must finish it, from the police station to the helicopter, without dying or restarting. Just make sure you load up on all the equipment before you move too close to Sarah and Barry. Otherwise, the Taken come. If you scavenge the lot before hand of both areas, it should be easy.

The church - the best way to do this is the hunting rifle and flash grenade combo on the left hand steps (with your back to the church). It should be easy as Sarah will be on hand to help out.

The helicopter - you're on your own here. Just use the flash grenades wisely, shoot the gan canisters to save flash grenades, and try to turn on the lights whenever possible. Stay on the pad as well. If you stick to that, you'll do fine.

Oh, do them on Normal.

To obtain this trophy, you must go from the beginning of the episode at the police station to boarding the helicopter without dying or restarting the checkpoint.

For anyone who can’t get past this moment and your game crashes (after beating the game, through selecting episodes), I recommend starting episode 4 and selecting the last part. I tried to select the beginning of episode 5 right away and in the same volume
in the same place I was kicked out of the game 4 times (rebooting the console did not help)

I’ll add Barsik1011’s tip: I highly recommend leaving the “fat” mob alive. Firstly, he is more thick-skinned in health and you won’t accidentally kill him with a flashlight. And secondly - it’s slower - it’s easier to run around the car.

The problem with why the trophy does not drop (if you have met all the conditions) is that upon completion of the fourth episode, you are automatically transferred to the fifth episode, after which you may have left the game, which is a reset for the trophy

If you select the last chapter of the 4th episode, and then go through the 5th, then there is no error, the trophy falls.

When replaying, you can immediately launch the episode “Nightlife of Bright Falls”. This does not affect crashes from the game.
You can pause the game and the trophy will appear. And it’s even necessary if you have problems with crashes.

Try to go through the chapter slowly, like during your first playthrough, when you explored locations, read notes, collected boxes.

In short, if you don’t skip cutscenes, don’t speedrun the level, and periodically pause, then the game manages to “load” everything and doesn’t crash.

With low health, I decided to turn off the game completely and turn it on again. As a result, the trophy did not fall out, although it did not die. So you shouldn’t turn off the game during this part.

You also cannot pause the game and walk away from the game for a long time, the trophy is glitchy and in this case the trophy may not be counted. It's better to go through this moment in one sitting.

I had to completely replay the game from the beginning, completely deleting all data about the previous playthrough of the game. And it kept freezing, no matter what I did according to the above tips. On easy it took about 3.5 hours

When the time comes to defend the helicopter, the enemies will trample in droves, you can cheat and kill all but one in the first pack of enemies, so the next pack of enemies will not appear. From this one comrade I run around the car until they invite me into the helicopter.

On the way to the helicopter there will be a place where you must go through a church. Before the doors to the church are opened for you, you will be attacked by many shadows in several waves. The easiest and safest way to defeat them is very simple. To the left of the church (if you stand with your back to the church) there is a yellow car with an open back door, inside of which lies a manuscript. We just climb into the body and accept all the shadows that try to get into your body. If there are too many opponents, then throw checkers at the entrance. In this simple way, I survived all the waves of attack without receiving a single blow.

The biggest chance of dying is at the very beginning when you go down from the roof and jump over the scaffolding. On an easy difficulty level, it takes 15 minutes to run through the easy one, so I recommend going through the battle at the helicopter in its entirety, perhaps the trophy is buggy because you are using a glitch with one remaining mob.

I highly recommend that before trying to make this trophy, copy and save the save file.
Because if it crashes, your save may be damaged, as happened to me.
Briefly:
1st crash immediately on the 1st crowd of monsters (If you didn’t skip any splash screens, so that everything would load quietly, calmly).
2nd crash, at the beginning, at the moment when the prison cell opens.
3rd crash, it started again, only at the moment with the power panel to open the gate and the save file was closed.
Update: In the end, we managed to get the trophy on the 4th attempt (luckily I returned an intact save from the cloud). I started with a selection of episodes and the way to periodically pause for 30 seconds helped. Don’t play slowly and wander around, looting all the trash, namely the pause. I don’t know how it works technically, but I remembered that when I played the mission for the first time, I also often paused, because I checked the guide for collecting items and there were no crashes then either.
