How to unlock the Child of the Elder God achievement in Alan Wake - Definitive Guide

this means you cant drop into the last bar of your life when defending the stage on episode 4 the anderson farm, and this is easily done on normal difficulty.
collect all the gear on stage and just back yourself into a corner near the main stage light. pick them off one by one and use a flare when needed. when the light comes on run into it for a quick boost of life and then run back. if you can try and save as many flashbangs and flares throughout the level if still struggling.

You should add to this solution, I screwed myself out of this by dropping to below the health limit while playing it on hard. I know should have played on normal from the get go but anyway I think you need to get this in one shot. I tried reloading the check point and it didnt pop for me. There is a check point in the battle I think that when you reload puts you in the center under the spot light during the battle.

In short has to be done in one shot or if you are in danger and looks like you won't make it reload the checkpoint BEFORE you get into the last bar to be safe.

Easy achievement, just do what it says above, but if you drop below the last bar RELOAD THE CHECKPOINT ASAP. No need to do the entire part again.

Why don't mention which episode/part this is about? I know, but mayby don't all do it or can't remember/understand the description and solution above. Why don't be clear? Just wondering...

I didn't even know about this achievement and got it accidentally on Normal Difficulty, its really not hard if you just use what is available

Just to reiterate what jurgpoop said, you do not need to do this in one shot. I got it last night on normal. I went down to low health (black and white) twice, and instead of reloading the game myself, I simply walked into the faded and let them kill me. The game then reloads and I continued. Once I killed all the faded the achievement popped.

Basically, you cannot go into low health, and then heal out of it. If you drop to low health, reload or die immediately.

As a counter to what Calex dEUS said, my health slipped very low (practically dead) and I did "restart checkpoint" and dang it, it was not at the start of the defend the stage objective, it was the mid-way checkpoint. I thought I was screwed, but since I had no choice I played on, and got the achievement... So I guess my health was OK at the time of the auto-save. So you might be OK if this happens to you.

I did this on Nightmare using checkpoint reloads so that definitely works, as long as you are not in low health when the light comes on it's fine. Just move about and spam flares when they get near. The pump-shotgun combined with flashbangs is a winner!

You can die and still get the achievement as long as you don't drop to low health within the time between the checkpoints, it will pop. I only used my shotgun three times. I just threw flares to keep the Taken away and ran for the lights when they came on.

I had to do this five times before the cheevo would pop, so it may potentially be a little bit glitchy for some people. Or maybe just for me

Just want to confirm that reloading checkpoint works! Make sure you have more than half health when going into the light getting your checkpojnt

If you head towards the stage and turn your back to the field (do not moving after in place), the taken will not spawn. Voiding the achievement from any difficulty.

Episode 4: The Truth
The Anderson Farm

when u get to the rock stage you must survive the attack without dropping to minimum health, use flares if they get to close and flash bangs to take out multiple enemies, jump in the light when it comes on at the front of the stage also.

The key to this one is not necessarily killing all of the enemies, but rather making it to the end of the song. At the end, Barry hits the fireworks and destroys all the remaining Taken. The stage has an improved lantern with batteries at stage-left, flares at stage center, a pump-shotgun at stage-right, and two cabinets of supplies along the back. Also, be sure to hit the spotlight at stage center whenever Barry gets it working -- it not only eliminates the current wave of Taken, but is also a checkpoint.

I popped this on my first try in Normal mode. Just use flares to keep them back, Flashbangs to take out groups, and unload with the pump shotgun if they're weak or close.

Refers to the battle at the stage on your way to the Anderson brother's farm. Barry mans the main spotlight and set pyrotechnics while you are free to use the numerous flares and flashbangs scattered on the stage.
I played on the hard difficulty and had no problem with this, just remember that you have the entire stage to use and plenty of ammo and weapons.
Try to listen for Barry as he will sometimes tell you about where enemies are coming from and more importantly when he gets the spotlight working. Every time it comes on make a dash for it and all the current enemies will vanish.
So in summary, stay on the stage, use flash bangs to break up the crowds approaching from the field and save the flares and guns for anything that makes it up there, and make use of Barry's lights whenever possible.

At the end of Episode 4, you will come to a stage at the Anderson Farm. This will be a fairly lengthy battle sequence where Alan has to battle the Taken, but luckily there is a ton of ammo laying around. As long as you don't drop down to the last bar of health, you will obtain this achievement. Just play it smart, the Taken cannot spawn behind you so pay attention to both the left and right sides of the stage. When Barry flicks on the stage light, run into it to heal up. This should be very easy on the Easy difficulty, although I obtained it on Hard. If you mess up, simply reload the checkpoint.

In Chapter 4 you will reach Anderson's stage where with the Rock Music many Taken will attack you and barry, stay above low health state for the whole duration to open the achievement.

At the end of episode 4, there will be a showdown on the Anderson's stage where Taken will come by the boatload. I've made a video of this one, but it's relatively easy if you play it smart - stay in the light when Barry flicks it on, use flares, watch your flanks, use flashbangs, etc.
