How to unlock the Heavy Metal achievement in Alan Wake - Definitive Guide

This fight can appear really daunting but it's actually pretty simple. Wait for the enemies to close in on you, as well as the bulldozer and throw a flashbang grenade. This will get rid of the enemies and weaken the bulldozers shadow barrier. Now focus your flashlight on the thing and just boost away. Try to stay on the bulldozers side and just keep turning with it.

If you find yourself in a panic situation, like you get cornered, your flares can do a whole lot of damage but it's generally unecessary. Just pop batteries in that flashlight and burn its health away.

EDIT: I've included a youtube link for this one so that people can see what fight I'm talking about.

I'm sorry Dynosaw, I should have been clearer. It is the final fight of the FIRST part of Episode 3. When you beat it you get into the truck that you use to reach the coal mine.

@YuBio$ - No, you have to play the whole level. I know, it sucks. You can only choose between the two parts of the one level. Like in Episode 3 you can choose to start at the trailer park or you can go to the daytime section.

its daft that you have to destroy it when the achievement only says you have to survive.
i didnt destroy it as i didnt need to and didnt want to waste flashbangs etc...
ill have to play through that level again to get that one.

So you can actually avoid it? I wasn't entirely sure. It felt like once the Taken were dead I should have been able to get to the fence and get out of there but I wasn't positive it could be done.

It's in the middle of Episode Three, along the way from the coal mine to the peak. It's basically a boss fight, you can't have missed it. However it seems that you can avoid it by going to the far side of the area, opening the fence and just running for it.

can you replay certain parts of a level? or is the only option to totally replay a level if you need to go back and get something?

Damn, I just beat this long ass level and didnt know you had to actually kill the bastard to get the achievemeent. I was wondering why it didnt pop up like alot of others.
Yo Misfit, you said you can replay 2 parts of chapter 3 so if you choose the 2nd part how far away is it from fighting this thing again?
I'm wondering if it is worth doing that or just playing it all over again on Nightmare once I beat it on Normal?

Actually you'd have to reload the beginning of the first part, play through the whole sucker and then beat the thing to get this as the fight is the VERY last thing you do at the end of part one. I'd suggest just waiting until the Nightmare playthrough though - it's not that much harder on Nightmare it just takes longer.

this achievement shouldn't be showed as "missable" because you don't need to start another save file.

I have no control over that. You'll want to post on the forums when it comes to achievement flags and the like.

There is a cheeky way of doing this achievement, as said above you need to destroy the Dozer but if you can manage to kill all the Taken and keep dodging the Dozer, and get to the electric fence switch, activate it and get into the next area. The Dozer can't actually fit through the gap in the fence, so you can concentrate all your light on the vehicle now whilst it's trying to get to you. Don't forget to go back in the previous area to find all the available ammo/pick ups.

In episode three you will encounter a bulldozer on a pretty large area. You MUST destroy it to get the achievement.

Simply use your flashlight and/or other "light-tools" to destroy it. It takes a while but it's not that hard, even though i made it on the hard difficulty. There is three lockers in the area with items such as batteries.

I found a good way to destroy it was to throw a flare into its path, as it drives over the flare it stops on top, and you can shine your torch on it. It took me 3 flares in nightmare mode to destroy it.

YES. the bulldozer has to be destroyed in order for this to pop.
I just ran away and 'survived' but that doesn't pop the achievement. *sadness*

Here's a video I made getting the achievement, with voice over to help you guys. This video was on the hard difficulty, and I explain exactly how to do the whole fight against the bulldozer.

You're all forgetting about literally the easiest way to do this. When you drop down from the stairs into this area you will be next to the outer wall of the building you were just in, and a sea-can perpendicular to the building. Run out into the middle of the lot to trigger the bulldozer attack, then once it comes, go back to that corner under the stairs. The bulldozer can't get you there. It will try, but just keep bouncing off the sea-can. This worked the first time I tried.
However, on my Nightmare play-through I tried the same thing (because it's fun to destroy a bulldozer with a flash-light) and that time it did manage to hit me by pushing a dumpster at me, which caused me to glitch through the wall and I was stuck on the inside. I had to reload the checkpoint that one time.

I got this by lureing the bulldozer into the middle of the area and throwing flares into the middle of the floor. By combining this with your torch usually makes this a short task.

Theres a good supply of flares in each of the 3 supply lockers within this area.

In Chapter 3 you will come across a bulldozer, defeat it to open this achievement.

There is an area during Episode 3 where Alan will come face to face with a giant possessed Bulldozer. This achievement can be missed if you choose to run past the Bulldozer, so make sure to kill it on your first play through by shining your Flashlight on it like all other possessed objects. If you have the Flare Gun and ammo, shooting it a few times also works.

During episode 3 Alan will have an untimely fight with a dark presence controlled Bulldozer. Now this makes the miscellaneous AND missable achievements category because you can simply run past it, rather than fighting it. Whatever you do, stand up like the man that Alan is and take that beast down. Whether you destroy it with a few flares/flaregun or general hard-assery with the boosted torch is up to you. Just don't opt for the easy way out... his name is Alan for a reason...
