How to unlock the Level-Headed achievement in Alice: Madness Returns - Definitive Guide

Simply load up the last checkpoint in Chapter 6. and skip all the cutscenes. When you get to the end, the achievement should unlock for you. It took me about 45 seconds. Good luck!

So we can do our first playthrough, use Hysteria as much as we need too, then after that just load Chapter 6 and not use it? And it will unlock?

It didn't unlock for me the first two times but for all the time it takes I thought I'd give it one more try and it popped. No idea why, didn't do anything different, but just a heads up for folk :)

Amazing!!! Thanks!!!! I completed the game using the chapter select trick but got every achievement except this one. I just simply did what crispy victim said and achievement popped with no problem. THANKS!!!

I actually played through the whole game again, and the achievement didn't pop!! Did this and it came up, so even if you are trying legit it can be glitchy! Thank you for stopping me having to play again!!

Still works, no way it's getting patched now. Also has the added upside of unlocking a dress that allows unlimited Hysteria uses, making the Pulling Strings achievement and Nightmare playthrough much easier than they would be otherwise.

It still works! (29/15/15) although as some commenters above have already said, if you are using the difficulty trick to skip the nightmare playthrough this does unlock the SECOND time you load the last checkpoint and finish the game.

Finish the game using Hysteria only once.

This achievement is VERY easy. Just don't use hysteria at all during your playthrough. Definitely recommend doing this on either an Easy or Normal difficulty playthrough. Instead of using hysteria, when times get tough, just die. The game will go back to your last checkpoint, and you can resume from there.

The reason that the achievement says "Only once" is because you're forced to use it once during the game, during the "tutorial." Just don't use it again, and you'll be fine.

*Edit* You're not forced to use it during the tutorial in the game, but just in case you do, that is why you are allowed to use it once and still get the achievement.

Just for my personal understanding:

I CAN use Hysteria 1x and will get the cheevo, but when i DON'T use it, i will also get the it. Right?

I found this pretty straightforward on Normal difficulty. Especially once you get the Teapot cannon, you can just spam most enemies from range.

I havent used it yet, including the tutorial. Not sure if this is like the One Bullet cheevo in Half Life (only use one bullet entire game) where if you accidentally use it twice, you can reload it and be fine. Hopefully someone can clear that up.

When you have already finished the game start the Doll-Maker Part 1 checkpoint through chapter select. Difficulty seems to be uneffecting.
Just beat the boss not using hysteria and the achievement should unlock.
Has been confirmed as working so far from one more user over at xbox360a.
I couldn't test it myself since I've already unlocked the achievement.

I can confirm this as I have just done it myself. Also I started from the Doll-Maker part 2, so you dont have to go through all the train cut-scenes either. ;)

Did you forget to get this one first time through? Do you want to beat it on Nightmare but don’t think you can do it without Hysteria and you really don’t have the motivation for a third play through? Well it’s your lucky day! I did it on Nightmare and I actually found the play through easier than the first time through on normal!!! Here’s how:

I got both achievements at once by using the DLC pack of weapons and dresses. Equip the red and white “Checkmate” dress to double your damage. Be sure to equip all the DLC weapons except for the Cheshire teapot. Start a new game+ on Nightmare. Assuming all your weapons are already ranked up from the first play through, simply bank all of your teeth throughout the game. The only place I ran into trouble is the final boss…that’s where the teeth you have been saving come into play. If you’re having any trouble, simply exit to the main menu and equip the “Mad Hatress” dress in which teeth replace hearts when receiving damage. I had saved up around 5000 teeth throughout the game and with each hit you take you lose around 100 or so teeth…so you can then take 50 or more hits from the boss without dying! This extra padding on your health should do away with any and all need for using Hysteria, netting you both achievements!!! Good Luck!!!

You will gain the Hysteria ability during chapter 1 after interacting with a door. After a cut-scene you can activate this ability by pressing while you are low on health and the screen is flashing red. You don't have to use Hysteria at all during the game and you can still unlock this achievement.

You can do this on either your first or second playthrough. We advise doing this on your second playthrough. That way you will have all your weapons upgraded and they will do more damage. Make sure you never press the button to activate Hysteria. You don't need to use Hysteria at all to earn this trophy, the trophy will still pop at the end when the credits start to roll, along as you didn't use it more than once. The only way to use it is to be on one heart or less, you will then be prompted to press . It will let you do more damage and your weapons will have unlimited ammo.

Please see Madness Prevails for more info on how to go about completing the game.


Alternative Method:

After completing the game, you will have a option to start a new game with New Game+, Start the game that way and let that chapter finish, quit out and then go to chapter select and choose the last sub chapter of the last level, walk to the end to have the credits start. You can either watch the credits or skip them, the trophy will soon follow.

When Alice is near death, it will be possible to turn on the hysteria mode. This is Alice's state in which she will not receive damage, the cannon and pepper shaker will not overheat, and Alice's power will increase. It's clear, don't use this ability and you will get this achievement.

Attention: here is a little secret that allows you to get this achievement without difficulty, as well as taking advantage of the hysteria during the game and not requiring replay. Complete the entire game at any level and in the way you want. After that, go to the game settings and change the difficulty to any other difficulty than the one you played the game on. Go to the "Chapter Selection" menu. Select the last chapter there, any point before the boss battle. The chapter is short, you can choose from the beginning. Complete THIS chapter ONLY without using Hysteria and you will receive this achievement.

I got this achievement by changing the difficulty of the game, selecting the last chapter and the last point of The End, just by running a few steps to the credits. Receipt time 2 minutes.
