If you have the Ripley edition of the game you can get this achievement right at the beginning of the Crew Add-on. Your first objective is to get the flamethrower. After that you will climb down a ladder and have your first chance to use your new toy on the alien. If it doesn't show up, sprint for a few steps and it should come for you quickly.

Does anyone know how to get this in Single Player?
I don't have the dlc :(
Used the flamethrower on the Alien and it ran off, that should be the requirement, right? Didn't unlock

Should work exactly the same in the main campaign. Maybe you have to use the flamethrower a few seconds longer on the alien.

I'm not entirely sure how to get this in the main game just yet, but a super easy way exists if you own the Last Survivor downloadable mission.
After finding two dead bodies down a ladder, just use it on the Alien when you see him about five minutes into the mission. He'll be in patrolling a room near where you found the bodies.
Ripley starts the mission with 40 units of fuel and the flamethrower, so it's easy. You'll also get another achievement at the same time.

Mission 10 is where you're handed the flamethrower for the first time. About mid-way through you'll probably face the alien, if not sooner if you're (un)lucky. Just have it out with LT first and hold down RT and pray. Playing on hard and those suckers are fast, so I had the LT held down prior to seeing the alien in a hallway waiting for me. You'll unlock this too:

When you first encounter the Alien in mission 10 soon after you get the flamethrower, fire 2 bursts at it and it should flee and you will get your trophy.
This can also be gotten in the Crew Expendable and Last Survivor DLCs, because you get a flamethrower early on.
