How to unlock the Shotgun Crowd Control achievement in Alpha Protocol - Definitive Guide
--I don't think the circle needs to be completely red. About half charge is usually sufficient to earn a critical.
--must be completed in one playthrough
--playing on easy and using damage-lower items will give you more opportunities to earn this.
--I didn't need to put any points in shotgun skills to earn this. I did for SMG and pistols.
--you'll receive a perk for 50 criticals with the shotgun, and again when you get this achievement. The 50 perk is a good way to know you'll doing it right.
The best way to earn this is to charge up a critical, find a lone enemy, stand at just below maximum range, and knock him down with only a little damage. You'll have more than enough time to charge a new shot while he stands up. Now be careful. If you shoot him before he stands up, you'll get credit for the critical, but he'll immediately stand up and resume shooting at you. Instead, wait for him to stand up, let him fire a single shot at you, then knock him down again. Move back if needed, and repeat until he stays down. You can easily get 8 or more criticals on a single enemy with this method and earn the achievement in one or two missions. This will ruin any stealth attempts, but if you're using a shotgun, you probably won't care.

The shotgun handles critical hits almost exactly like the pistol. Once they've completely circled around, your shotgun will perform a critical hit with your next shot. You'll know you've done it right if the shot knocks down whoever it hits.
If you have invested into the shotgun tree, the Room Sweeper ability will make this achievement much easier. For the duration of the skill, every shot will be a critical hit, so you can get this achievement very quickly with it.
