How to unlock the SMG Havoc achievement in Alpha Protocol - Definitive Guide
To do this; my SMGs had these equipped:
- Extended SMG clips (-1 stability, +4 ammo)
- Internal SMG magazine (-2 recoil, +4 ammo)
The SMG themselves were the Samael Storm (high stability and recoil; low damage).
When firing, try aiming at the torso, rather than the head.
Also; once you do reach the maximum; then reload your weapons if there are more enemies nearby - you never know you might get it again.
Most importantly:
a) reloading resets your multiplier
b) level up your SMG skills, so the multiplier chain lasts longer (this also increases the maximum multiplier), and your accuracy increases
The two things I found were a problem with this are:
- knowing what the maximum multiplier is (it starts at 1.7x I believe, and increases as you level up SMG's)
- Knowing how many times you've reached the maximum (you do get a perk after 4)
Good luck
- aim for bigger ammo capacity with upgrades for the SMG
- give points to SMG skill, so you can have more time between the shots
- run, play like crazy, get in fights as many times as you can, don't play slow and careful (you may play on easy to make it sure, but it's not necessary)
- don't turn off the alarms, so you will get more enemies
And most importantly:
- use the Bullet storm skill. One easy way to do this achievement is that you shoot almost every bullet from your SMG, then just before reloading, activate the skill. With it, you don't have to reload, until it's on, so you have plenty of time to do the killing.
Use the above tactics on bosses (maybe even multiple times), and in bigger fights, and you shouldn't have problem getting this achievement. I got mine in the first city after Saudi-Arabia, so I still had plenty of time left.
Mission - Assault Triad Headquarters (taipei)
equip your weakest smg
having the skill iron will can make this easier
having the skill bullet storm will make this easier
extended clip can easily make up for bullet storm
you will have 3 bosses on this map. the first one is in the building immediately at the beginning up the stairs. take out all the guys around first then head up stairs, pick the lock and procceed to :
1) tap the trigger while shooting at his legs. allow his armor to come back each time u tap before tapping again(with one point in the smgs i found his armor healed before the timer ran out on the hit counter). you will know when you have hit the objective hit goal when the counter goes from the right side to the left (the number that increases as you land hits)
2) once you've hit your goal run back out the door behind the camera and allow ur endurance to come back, reload and if your taking alot of damage wait for iron will to come back then go back and do step 1 again. if you run out of bullets before hitting the goal 7 times or accidentally kill him too soon...
3) move onto the next boss. theres no save between 1 and 2 so id suggest at least 5 max hit counts on the first boss. the next boss has a cowboy hat and is upstairs in the building your sent to. repeat steps 1 and use the stairs instead of the door for step 2.
when i was done (on the first boss) i reloaded the mission with my prefered equipment. i found this way easier than using smgs EVER. they suck and i didnt want to waste alot of points on any guns other than pistols.
See Pistol Mastery for more info.
SMG's are a very unique weapon. Instead of waiting for your crosshair's to turn red like the pistol or the shotgun, you must increase your damage multiplier as high as you can, which is 1.7 damage. Simply hitting the target is all it takes to increase your multiplier, however it can be reset in one of two ways. If too much time passes between your last hit, or you reload, your damage multiplier will automatically be reset. Any upgrades you can get that will increase how much ammo you have per clip will make this achievement much easier to go for, so try to get it if you can. Also, using the skill Bullet Storm in the SMG tree will give you infinite ammo for a small period of time, which can make this achievement much easier.
It's hard at a range to try and pull this off unless you are invested into the SMG tree, so get as close as you possibly can to enemies, and slowly shoot quick bursts into them. Every time you hit them, you will notice a bar at the bottom of your crosshair's fill up, and your multiplier to the right of it. You may have to kill multiple enemies for it, but once you hit a 1.7 multiplier, you can just let it go.
You will unlock the perk "SMG Fury" after maxing out your damage multiplier four times.
While holding the button to aim with the SMGs, you will see a bar across the bottom of the reticle and a critical hit multipler at the lower right which starts at x1.0. As you continue to hit enemies this multiplier will increase to a maximum of X1.7, but if you stop the bar will slowly shrink to indicate how much time is left in your critical hit streak. Find more enemies to shoot before time runs out or it will reset to x1.0 and you will have to start again. Keep in mind that reloading will also reset your critical hit multiplier, so use of extended clips or the Bullet Storm ability are key. Streaks are often easiest to accomplish in boss fights as they can absorb a great deal of damage, potentially giving you multiple streaks at a time. The "SMG Fury" perk will unlock at 3 maximum muptiplier streaks, marking the nearly halfway point.
If 50 rounds in the magazine is not enough, pumping up the SMG branch 3 times (initial level of the Bullet Storm skill) no longer makes sense.
Got it at the next level after Braiko's dacha (Surkov's escape), there are quite a lot of opponents, raise the alarm, and they will run to the slaughter steadily.
