How to unlock the Max Anarchy achievement in ANARCHY REIGNS - Definitive Guide

In order to unlock Max Anarchy, you must complete the game without using any retries which means you must not die once. Although this may sound difficult, it really isn’t as hard as it sounds. Keep in mind that rampage mode makes you invincible so you may want to hold on to it until your health drops low so you can be invincible and regain your health simultaneously. This will unlock at the end-game results screen.

If you played through the game on Hard first you should have no problem with Normal mode. I suggest that you always select an easy mission to earn the needed points in order to progress (like Black Side Free 1-1, 2-1 ect.)

You can also do this on Easy which shouldn´t give you any trouble at all. Please keep in mind that you have to beat both Black and White Side and the Red Side of the Character you started with in order to complete the game.

He also did a complete Normal Mode No-Retires run which you can watch below on his channel.

edit: The Retire-option doesn't seem to work anymore, it may be a a change from the japanese version which I played back then. The best thing to do here is taking on the campaign on Easy which shouldn't give you any troubles at all (if you've played and completed the game on hard before). Otherwise you have to quit to the Dashboard everytime you die.

edit 2: as mentioned later in the comments, it is possible to make a backup save on a USB device so that you can copy and retry, should the need arise. Saving after each chapter should make things easier.

I haven't actually tried because the game is really easy on Easy. I played through it on hard before and had no trouble at all. But to be on the safe side, make sure that you don't lose a single life. Best way to prevent this is to pause the game when you have less life left ans then quit to the dashboard.

As long as you quit to your dashboard fast enough (before you see the Game Over/Failed Screen and therefore return to the area map) it will not save. It'd still say that you better restart it when you have only 1 Try left and your health is at low levels. This is important for missions with only 1 Try. If you want to play it safe, do it on easy. The run itself should only take around 3 hours.

I did it on Normal and only died once against Chtullu because I wasn't paying attention to his lasers...

What if you die in the free roam/ mission select overworld?

It has been quite some time since I played it. If the screen asks you to either retry or go back to the main menu, then I'd say dying in the roam map counts. I didn't die on the roam overworld and therefore can't confirm anything. I'd suggest to play it safe and do it on Normal/Easy and farm the easy missions for the required points.

You will also know that it's too late when the game says "Mission failed". You can always quit when you're in the dying animation but that's really risky. just keep on like you did and you will do fine.

I died once in a free mission with 3 retries and quickly hit retire (dock level). I also fell off the map in another free mission but hit retire before I touched the water (hong long). The achievement did not pop at the end of the game.

Which side did you start on and have you beaten the Red Side of the chosen character? I did White Side on Normal and died once while quiting to the dashboard and got it without any problems. I wonder if they changed how the Retire mechanic works in the US/EU version but I don't think that's it.

I'm pretty sure the retire trick doesn't work any more because Its what I did. White side.

Just got it. Didn't die through the whole campaign. I would definitely test that retire trick again. I wasted two playthroughs because of it, I would have dashboarded instead.

Every-time I died i retried. So every score i had , had max retries, and it didn't pop.

So since the guy above me had the same issue i wouldnt even bother wasting your time with it, Best bet is to hammer through it on easy.

That's sad to hear but I can't change the fact that it worked back then when I played the japanese version. Anyway, I edited the solution.

Couldn't I just level select and do the main story missions without dying?

Nope, that doesn't count. You have to do the game from the beginning.

So if you have 3 lives in 1 mission you can't lose any of those 3? Also, can you use a 2 save file trick with this? Save a copy to a USB drive or the cloud and periodically update it so if you die you can use your backup file to overwrite the one that you died on?

Well that's an interesting approach. I'm glad it worked out for you =)
I will edit the solution based on that knowledge, thanks for sharing!

Can you do this by mission select or by starting the campaign over?

You did the right thing. You're actually allowed to return to the world map by pausing the game and then choose "Retire from mission". You will be back at the world map and it will not count as a death. Even when you've lost one of the 3 tries during a mission you will get your achievement as long as you choose "Retire".

The dashboard quit should only bother you within the missions where you have only 1 Try/Life. In this case, play it safe and pause when your health is low and you don't have your rage gauge filled.

I only needed this once because I did all the Side Missions during my 0 Death run and died against ??? (possible spoiler) in White Side 4-3 (Sidequest). If you should have trouble with this mission, just abuse your jumping X. You will understand when you're there. Makes things a lot easier =)

However, you can just farm the easy missions for points and skip the other sidemissions. Just remember that you have to play both Sides and then beat the Red Side with the character you started.

I hope this was of some use for you. And I also hope you're enjoying Max Anarchy as a game because the critics kinda tear it apart. I loved it back then in July 2012.

@I Nevan I, thanks for reply. I used a USB to make a backup save and just copied over my file as soon as I advanced through 1 or 2 Chapters. I also fell to my death during a free roam when you are playing on the battleship around Chapter 2 and still got the achievement. I also got it on easy b/c I had already played on normal and hard and wanted to try it with a clean slate.

doubt many are still playing this game at this point but just confirming that dashboarding does work since nobody actually confirmed it previously. Died once on accident during the Douglas level dashboarded , reloaded and carried on and it unlocked after the post game cutscenes .

You must do this in a fresh run of Campaign mode, and you cannot die in any mission for this. It's possible to do this on Normal difficulty if you are careful with manual saving/loading, but it's easiest to just do it on Easy, where you can speed run through the game in a couple hours with nearly no risk of death. You will definitely want to skip White Side mission 2-2x, which has a wild excavator that can be tricky to dodge. Also, be careful with White Side mission 4-2, as the center of the stage will turn into a pool of quicksand that kills you instantly.

If you have already beaten the game on both sides on different difficulties, then you can get the matching trophies on the other sides by going into Stage Select and playing the missing Red Side and Mission 4-3.

In order to unlock Max Anarchy, you must complete the game without using any retries which means you must not die once. Although this may sound difficult, it really isn’t as hard as it sounds. If you play through the game in the fashion I described in the roadmap, you’ll have experience from Hard mode which will make this game on Normal mode be a walk in the park. If Normal is still too hard, you are also able to unlock this on Easy which should make it nearly difficult to die. Keep in mind that rampage mode makes you invincible so you may want to hold on to it until your health drops low so you can be invincible and regain your health simultaneously. This will unlock at the end-game results screen.

Everything is clear here. Let's start the game on Easy and move forward with the song. Here the enemies are much stupider, weaker, very little damage is dealt to you, and the enemies, on the contrary, die like flies, even the bosses. After Hard it will seem like a child's walk.
PS If you still feel that you will lose, for example, you fell into a sand pit during the fight with Douglas or could not escape the capture of a brown mutant who kills immediately and he does it with a running start, then press , select Main Menu, and then Campaing and Continue. Death will not count and the trophy can still be won.

If you were killed? but you have 2 more attempts, then just press quickly , and go to the main menu. And if you had one attempt, you won’t be able to pause; you will be automatically transferred to the city. To prevent the game from counting your loss and saving the result, quickly press PS and exit the game on PSN. This way, in both cases, if you get killed, you will still be able to take this trophy.

You must complete the entire game with one life and must not waste a single life even in challenges where you gain 3 lives. Also, if you feel that life or time is running out, press pause and go to the menu, and then select “continue”. Such a trick does not count as a loss of life or as an additional attempt.
