How to unlock the One small step for a man achievement in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey - Definitive Guide
Unlocked when you get the trait Bipedalism
The trait route is as follows:
Motor Skill -> Contextual orthostatis + Orthostatis & Sense -> Equilibrioception -> Proprioception -> Vestibular System + Speed Mutation -> Bipedalism + Lower Body Strength Mutation
Motor Skill - Picking up and inspecting items, standing up for the first time, and moving around
Contextual Orthostatis - Using a stick on a liftable rock and fishing spot
Orthostasis & Sense - Stand up after entering Intelligence Mode and Senses Mode
Equilibrioception - Automatically unlocked after the last 2, here you gain the ability to stand up just by pressing
Proprioception - Stand up and walk around a little bit
Vestibular System - Stand up and walk around more (Mutation needed)
Bipedalism - Stand up and walk around (Mutation Needed)

Made it to PROPRIOCEPTION. Next step says you need a "MUTATION". Please expound on that.
Don't you need to mate, have as many children in the clan as you can, then evolve?
ANSWER: Mate your adult males/females so they have 2 infants each, a total of 6. You should skip generations and pay attention to what mutations are active, because when you evolve with those active, they remain locked in.
Bring all children piggybacking on adults when you "discover" the nearby meteorite by the swamp. Meteorites give automatic mutations to all children. Skip a gen to make the children adults to activate the mutations, then evolve to lock those mutations in. Sweet!
I haven't gotten that far yet and would love some guidance before I blindly advance. (Answered my own questions a full year later and about 50 hours gameplay.)
What REINFORCEMENTS should we use? Reinforce 6 (or 12) neurons as soon as you've learned that many, and immediately skip a gen.
1 June 2023, UPDATE:
I've played 20+ hours now. I haven't evolved yet. My neuronal map is maxed as far as can be. I've killed several snakes, warthogs, panthers, gators and centipedes. I've discovered about 10 locations. Moved my settlement only 4 times so far.
I recommend reinforcing some Motricity and then all fighting neurons (I didn't want to lose a clan member to any wild animals).
I had six infants each time I skipped a generation. First thing you do after skipping a generation, mate all your females to give birth twice. I had 3 babies on 3 Adult Males, and 3 babies on 3 Elder Males, so I'd know which were males.
Control at least 1 Adult Male, with a piggybacking baby, while exploring, fighting, eating, drinking, crafting, altering & constructing.
Adults have a full stamina circle.
Elders have a reduced stamina circle.
22 Apr 2024: UPDATE: Unlocked this achievement finally... AFTER I FINISHED THE EVOLUTION part of the game.
NOTE: You can still continue the game after fully evolving, and you can keep skipping generations. I unlocked BIPEDALISM immediately after the end credits finished rolling.
NOTE: All mutations are given to your final evolutionary hominids. So no more worrying about infants and mutations and meteorites and locking them in.

I didn't get bipedalism until I finished the game. When I continued my game, it was unlocked and just needed to be linked.
