How to unlock the The Player achievement in Apex Legends - Definitive Guide
Edit - 8th December 2019. Thanks to Mercado for the notification of the changes.
As of the recent update there has been an xp overhaul reducing the total required to reach level 50 which should make this achievement easier to obtain, I've added an extract from the article in the spoiler tag below. Please note my play experience in this solution is pre-December update therefore numbers and timings will likely vary.
This will likely be the last achievement you will need to complete the game. The main source of xp will be time survived. In a 20m20s game I got 3660 survival xp, of which you get an additional 5% if you play with a friend.
Please note this guide has been updated many times due to the nature of the ever changing game. Every effort has been made to ensure the information is accurate. If you are aware of any changes to the game systems just drop them below and I will check the patch notes and update where possible.
It took me 50 hours from start to finish. Expect it to take anywhere from 40-80 hours depending on how often you win.
Xp chart below
Win - 900xp
Top 3 - 300xp
Kill - 50xp
Revive - 25xp
Respawn - 200xp
Damage - 1xp per 4 damage
Killing a champion - 500xp
Being a champion squad - 500xp
First kill of the day - 500xp
Being Kill leader - 50xp
Survival xp - 3 per second
In an average 20 minute game I was getting around 4-5k total xp most matches (the most I noticed was 6.7k). So you’d be looking at around 1-1.5 hours per level.
I found an updated xp table online and the numbers synced with what I had so far when I'd started to redo the table so I believe them to be accurate as of after December 2019. From around level 18 onwards the xp increases by only 150 each level with the new numbers.
The xp table needed for each rank is:
2 - 100
3- 2,650
4- 3,900
5- 4,750
6- 5,600
7- 6,350
8 - 7,100
9 - 7,850
10 - 8,150
11 - 8,600
12 - 9,050
13 - 9,500
14 - 9,950
15 - 10,400
16 - 10,850
17 - 11,300
18 - 11,750
19 - 12,200
20 - 12,350
21 - 12,500
22 - 12,650
23 - 12,800
24 - 12,950
25 - 13,100
26 - 13,250
27 - 13,400
28 - 13,550
29 - 13,700
30 - 13,850
31 - 14,000
32 - 14,150
33 - 14,300
34 - 14,450
35 - 14,600
36 - 14,750
37 - 14,900
38 - 15,050
39 - 15,200
40 - 15,350
41 - 15,500
42 - 15,650
43 - 15,800
44 - 15,950
45 - 16,100
46 - 16,250
47 - 16,400
48 - 16,550
49 - 16,700
50 - 16,850
Bringing the total needed to 592,650 which is a reduction of 79,050 which should make this achievement easier to obtain.
The below spoiler is the pre-December 2019 xp chart which I compiled myself from a fresh account incase they ever change the xp table back.
EDIT 3rd July 2019: Thanks to SnD ACiD RAiN for the information.
As of the release of Season 2. The glitched unlock which a number of users were having issues with should hopefully be fixed.

[X1 only] Fixed bug where players were not being rewarded “The Player” achievement after hitting level 50. If you have reached level 50 and not received it in the past it should now be awarded retroactively.

Thank you for mentioning the xp cap. I was worried it scaled indefinitely.

You will earn experience for a number of things in each match of Apex Legends. The goal is to survive as long as possible and get as many kills as possible. Along the way, you'll get a number of bonuses. Also be sure to play with a friend, as you'll get 5% bonus xp for having someone in your party before you start matchmaking. Here is the breakdown of experience gains:
- Win: A nice 900xp bonus for a win.
- Top 3 Finish: You will earn a bonus 300xp for getting to the podium.
- Time Survived: You earn 3xp per second survived.
- Kill: A kill on a normal player is 50xp.
- Damage: You will earn 0.25xp per point of damage done.
- Revive: Help a downed teammate to earn 25xp.
- Respawn: Gather a dead teammate's banner and respawn them at a beacon for 200xp.
- Champion Kill: If you kill the person marked as the champion for the round (which is the person in the game who had the best game prior to the one you're in, usually someone on a winning squad in their previous game), you will earn 500xp.
- Be the Champion: You get a nice 500xp bonus if you are the Champion yourself.
- Kill the Kill Leader: You will get a bonus 50xp for a kill on someone who has the most kills in the current match.
- Be the Kill Leader: You also get a 50xp bonus if you are the kill leader yourself.
- First Kill of the Day: Get a kill once per day for a 500xp bonus.
Simply keep playing matches to slowly level up. Be sure to swap characters if you get a win to work on "Apex Legend" and "Well-Rounded" at the same time.
Important: This trophy can potentially glitch and not unlock despite being or over Player Level 50+.
I haven't found an official response yet to the issue, but if you have this glitch happen to you, you're just screwed until a patch resolves it. It does seem to happen to people who disconnect from the game when they're Level 49 and about to hit Level 50. Since they missed seeing or hitting the level 50, they've missed the chance of unlocking the trophy and therefore get glitched and there's nothing you can do to fix it. Also, I don't recommend accepting any invites from friends or squad members if you're about to hit Level 50. You might miss the widow of viewing the results screen where your trophy would have unlocked.
If you leave the game and your squad are still alive while you're dead permanently, you won't get any XP from that match. If you stayed until they all died or win the game, you will get the XP.
For this trophy, you'll need to reach player level 50. Leveling up in Apex Legends allows you to earn Apex Packs for cosmetic items and Legend Tokens. At Level 25+, each level requirement becomes a flat 18,000 XP needed to reach the next level and will remain the same as you continue playing the game. The level cap in Apex Legends is player level 100. After 100, you will always get Legend Tokens as rewards which can be used to purchase other Legend heroes that get released without spending real money.
Other than that, the best way to earn Experience Points (XP) opposed from getting eliminations, surviving a very long time or winning the game are the following categories:
Teamwork and Survival: The game is meant to be played with friends and not randoms. You will get more XP per game by playing with friends and cooperating with each other or assembling your squad. Not only that, but if you do manage to survive a very long time or win the game. The XP amount will always be the highest amount due to the XP bonuses you receive.
The bonuses are the following things:
Victory, Performance and Placements: Winning the game will net you the most XP possible in addition if you were with friends or squad up. Winning games in the top #1-3/20 Squad Placements will be about +300/+500/+900 XP. The +900 coming from the Won Match Bonus XP while +500 is 2nd place and +300 is third place. Anyone at #4-20/20 Squad Placements don't receive the Top 3 Finishes XP. That is why victory and performance is key to getting the highest XP per a match. On average, if you're with friends or a squad and you Top 3 Finish, you will get about 4500 to 7500 depending on how well you've performed.
Kills and Eliminations: Battle Royale is all about killing and of course you can gain even more XP from getting those secured eliminations.

- +200 XP per Ally Respawned
- +5% Bonus to Survival Time while in a Party (per friend)
- +500 XP if your Squad is with the Champion
Victory, Performance and Placements: Winning the game will net you the most XP possible in addition if you were with friends or squad up. Below is a listing of things that can help you get more XP from kills:
- +500 XP for the first kill of the day. You only get this XP once a day and is unaffected by bonus XP.
- +50 XP per secured eliminations. It should be noted that knockdowns aren't kills. However, if an enemy or squad member finishes off an enemy you knocked down, then it'll count as your kill.
- +500 XP if you managed to eliminate the current Kill Champion. Do note that if your team is the kill Champion, then obviously you won't be getting this bonus.
- +50 XP per an elimination if you're the current Kill Leader. If you're the current Kill Leader of the match, the more kills you can get means the more XP you'll receive. Think of it as double XP per a kill since eliminations are always worth +50 XP. Kill Leaders will be getting essentially +100 XP per a kill they secure as long as they remain the Kill Leader (person with the highest kills).
- Damage Done XP is the total damage you dealt during the match. The number is divided by 4 and then you get that as XP. For example, 1000 damage is worth +250 XP Earned.

Glitched trophy, don't leave the match if it's close to level 50

We enter the game at least once a day, kill at least one enemy - +500 experience points for the first kill. If you play more often and more effectively, everything is much simpler. There are also random bonuses of +500 if you are on the champion’s team, additional experience for the leader in kills, or killing him. And also a bonus if you play in a team with friends.
