How to unlock the Centurion achievement in ARCADE GAME SERIES: DIG DUG - Definitive Guide

The amount of enemies on each level are as follows:

Round 1 - 4
Round 2 - 5
Round 3 - 5
Round 4 - 5
Round 5 - 6
Round 6 - 6
Round 7 - 7
Round 8 - 7
Round 9 onwards - 8

This means, that assuming you kill every enemy and don't let any escape, you will need to get every enemy, up to and including level 15 (which will total 101 enemies).

Tips:
Two-Enemy combo trick: When you have two enemies chasing you, pump up one a couple of times (without killing it), quickly turn away and then back to the enemies, pump up the second enemy, kill it, and then pump up the first one again to kill it.

Settings: Make sure your settings are set to 5 lives at the start, and that the next life bonus is set to 20,000/50,000/--,---

Fast Pump trick: Instead of standing still and pumping, which is slower, you can 'fast pump'. Basically, this involves standing near the enemy, press A to start the pump, then quickly alternate button presses of cn_A and cn_up/cn_right/cn_down/cn_left (whichever direction the enemy is compared to your character). You'll save about 0.5-1 second each time you kill an enemy this way.

Staying mostly on the surface of the level made my life much easier. I did not dig much for this achievement, I waited for the enemies to come to me.

That's not a bad idea early on, but you can quickly get swamped in the later levels doing that.

I didn't even know you could alter the number of lives in the game. Awesome!

Are there any video guides out there for this and Rambler? These 2 achievements are a roadblock to getting the 1000G.

Great guide! I completed the 360 version of Dig Dug and never knew about fast pumping. facepalm I don't know if I could have done this without fast pumping. FYI...you don't need to alternate the D-Pad and cn_A to fast pump. You can simply hold the direction in which you are pumping and mash cn_A.

So... has anyone had any problems with this not popping? I've gotten to level 18 twice in a row, then 20. Killing every enemy, maybe one would escape each game. Won't pop.

So now, 3 days later, playing plenty of other games, it just randomly popped... Nevermind. I would, however flag this as buggy.

Well, I managed it. But I just went straight to the top at the beginning of every level and let them come to me. Very rarely did I get overwhelmed, and just spammed left or right plus A to kill them faster than just pumping stationary.

Finding this a little hard? Me too but there was a trick or glitch from pac-man 256 found by Manic Ado that works on all these arcade games.

Create your own checkpoint. You will still have to compete the achievement action but if you create your own checkpoint you'll never start from scratch.

Example, you beat round, killing all enemies, create a checkpoint each level. Why risk it

Here's how.
-At any point you wish pause the game.
-select save and quit
-hit the guide button(big glowing X on the center of your controller)
-press start (or the 3 line button next to the guide button)
-select exit game

Go play, you'll start off on your new checkpoint, if you screw up..

-hit guide
-press start
-select manage game
-select save data

Now click on your save data and pick "delete from console"
-Do this a second time

Final step, launch the game, you'll start from you'll check point.

Repeat the first steps to make a new checkpoint as needed

I was contacted by a gamer who said this didn't work for them because the cloud data didn't sync right away. Can't be sure if this will be the case for everyone but if it happens wait say 15 mins after deleting the save from your console before starting the game.

Seems like a lot, it's really not. Good luck out there

@LordlierVincent Making a video is a little hard since you have to go offline to do this, and it involves going into Xbox settings (so the usual Xbox One capture options won't work). To elaborate on the instructions a little:

* Go online
* start the game
* start a new game at level 1
* as soon as you drop into the level, pause
* hit the Xbox Guide button, go to Settings (far right), then General, then Network Settings, then "Go Offline"
* go back to the game and beat the level (kill all enemies) without dying
* as soon as you kill the last enemy, pause
* hit the Xbox Guide button, go to Settings (far right), then General, then Network Settings, then "Go Online"
* go back to the game, and in the pause menu pick "Save and quit"
* hit the Guide button & return to home, then force quit the game (start -> Quit)
* wait at least 10-15 mins for the save to sync to the cloud

That's the basic idea of creating a checkpoint, you play the game while offline, and if you do well, you go back online & save. So keep repeating for levels until you die on one. At this point you want to restore your checkpoint, so:

* hit the Guide button & return to home, then force quit the game (start -> Quit)
* on the game tile on the dashboard, start button -> "Manage game and add-ons", go down to "Saved Data" and press A. Go down to your username, and press A, then pick "Delete from Console". If you see a "Delete everywhere" option, then you're not offline and you've just screwed up your save and have to start over.
* after deleting from console, go back online
* start the game. As soon as you hit the screen where it says "play will resume from saved data" immediately hit the guide button, and go offline
* go back to the game & try again

I realize it's hard to follow this from a textual guide, but it's hard to create a video of this.

You can abuse the save system to make this achievement very easy (if a bit time consuming). Sorry if this is a little long, I'm trying to make the instructions as clear as possible.

Play the game until you feel like you've made a good amount of progress towards the achievement. Then save and quit and follow the directions below to get a reusable checkpoint. Then keep playing from your checkpoint and try to get a little further and make a new checkpoint. If you mess up, or aren't doing as well as you would like, restore your previous checkpoint and try again. N.B. Your achievement will not actually pop until you go back online.

Personally I got to level 10, saved my progress, got to level 13, saved it again, then finished from there). It's a personal choice of how much risk vs hassle you want to put up with. You could save your progress after every single level. (Which would be a lot of waiting for the save to sync to the cloud). Or you could save every 3, or 5. I wouldn't bother saving until at least level 6 or 7, since the 1st few levels are pretty easy. You don't need to restart each time you die, you could allow yourself one death every 3 levels and have plenty left. If you can make it up to level 12 and still have 4 or 5 lives left you have a pretty good chance of finishing in couple attempts if you retry it from there.

NB: Going offline is optional, it provides a little bit of extra insurance against a fast sync as well as against operator error. You can just delete your local copy of the save whenever you want to restore your checkpoint. There is a very small chance it will synchronize your save while you are playing. Also if you are online you will have the ability to delete your save from the cloud as well (which you definitely do not want to do).

To “back up” a new checkpoint.
1) Go online if you are offline.
2) Save and quit.
3) Quit the game (hit xbox button, then menu/hamburger button and select quit)
4) Wait a while for it to synch up to the cloud (I would give it 10 to 15 minutes).
5) Load the game.
6) Go offline (OPTIONAL- If you are sharing your content via swapping home xboxes, you should still be able to play for a certain amount of time even offline, as long as you launch it first. Since the levels in the arcade collection are all pretty short, you should either be at the point where you are ready to go online again in just a few minutes.)
7) Continue to play

To restore your checkpoint
1) Xbox button then menu/hamburger and select manage game.
2) Go to the saved data for your gamertag and hit A, then select “DELETE FROM CONSOLE”. DO NOT SELECT “DELETE EVERYWHERE”.
3) Go online again (OPTIONAL).
4) Load the game and after the launch screens it will sync your save from the cloud.
5) Once it does this, go offline again, and give it another shot.

To go offline
1) Settings
2) All Settings
3) Network
4) Network settings
5) Go offline

To go online
1) Open sidebar
2) Go to settings section
3) Select connect to xbox live
4) Go online

I have had it work for other games thanks. But what always confuses me is how to make another save once I have gone offline and need to save again. Do I go online then save cuz sometimes it does not seem to work.

What's with the negative vote? Was it confusing? Did it not work for you? Do you feel like this is illegitimate?

Might be because it doesn't work when you digitally game share your games with someone.

Can 100% confirm this works, down voters just aren't doing it right. Side not, I never had to go offline, even with sharing.

Down-voted. When I try to do this and go back into the game, it is always reset to level 1.

I'm doing exactly what you wrote, but it doesn't work... the save file is deleted from console only and when I restart the game it says "sync", but then it stops syncing and the save file is gone. I have to restart from level 1...

Did you give it long enough to copy up to the cloud before deleting it?
0
0
By Palesius on 07 Jan 2018 19:06
Yes, I did. 15min, approximately the same time that it takes for the controller to turn off.

It does start the sync, but at 8% it just stops...

[EDIT] Whatever.... took me so long to figure out how this "save game stuff" works, that I got good enough at the game to just do it in one go.

Like it hangs and never finishes or it goes away? It’s a very small save so it might skip straight from 8% to done.

And you are waiting after saving and quitting in game, right?

Maybe try giving it a longer time like 30 minutes and see if it works?

You can go offline on the Xbox from the setup menu btw you don’t have to physically unplug it or anything. It’s possible that they have sped up the cloud upload process in the course of recent dashboard updates.

In case anyone has a similar situation as I did, I used Dr Marty's method. I got all the way to round 18, which was well over 100 enemies, but the achievement never popped. I had to go run an errand, and when I turned my Xbox back on after coming back, the achievement popped on the dashboard for me. Such a big relief

Can't go offline. You cannot play it unless it's online. "Your console needs to be online in order to play" Fake.

You need to be online at least 15 minutes for it to upload to the cloud. If you want to make another save you just need to make the save in the game and then make sure you are online for at least fifteen minutes. Make sure you fully quit the game to be on the safe side. Those are the two important things, quitting and waiting

Hey, I was playing through the other arcade games and in order for this trick to work I had to go offline when playing (this was not optional).

This is what I did:
1. I played offline at all times
2. I made a save when appropriate
3. Dashboarded and went online so that the save could upload to the cloud [waited 15min (e.g.: until the wireless controller turned off)].

When messing up at some point:
1. I dashboarded (still in offline)
2. Deleted all save files (since offline, wouldn't affect the cloud file)
3. Went online and started the game. Waited for cloud file to be downloaded.
4. Immediately after download was completed, I went offline again and continued to play.

This way, if really quick cloud uploads were the reason why this didn't work before (i.e. When starting the game, it automatically overwrites the good save file with a blank new one), I prevented them from being uploaded because I was playing offline at all times. Also it made sure that cloud saves could never be deleted.

This does make this process tedious, because you not only have to restart the game all the time, but also have to turn on and off your internet connection in the menu and wait for it to reconnect.

Difficulty: Easyish

This can be exploited by saving the game and backing your data up to the cloud storage (It's in settings in application save data).
Do a level or two, killing everything possible, then save and quit.
Upload your data and continue with the game.
Save your lives at the start for the later levels. You don't want to die a lot on the easy levels.
If you die you can just quit and download your game progress from the cloud, similar to how you uploaded your progress.
This trophy should be earned in tandem with digging 1000 squares ideally.

Note: You can increase your lives to 5 in settings to make this easier.

This trophy, as stated, needs to be completed in a single playthrough. Make use of the cloud save method/exploit if needed, as soon as you complete a level without dying and killing all enemies upload your save to the cloud as a backup in case it all goes wrong, you can then resume from that point if need be. Try to kill every enemy in each level to maximise your progress towards this trophy, by doing so this will pop by level 13-15. It's worth noting that you will receive an extra life when you reach 20k and 60k points, this will make things easier. It's a good idea to obtain the points bonuses when you can, by dropping 2 boulders per level and collecting the pickup that then appears in the middle of the screen. As the levels progress the enemies will become smarter and faster, listen out for when the music speeds up as so will the enemies. This is obviously possible without using the cloud save method/exploit but will make this a lot easier. Be sure to alter the game settings so that you start with 5 lives as this will make this trophy easier.

If you can’t kill 100 opponents at once, then you can use the steamy method - you’ve completed the level, press start, select “save and exit”, after saving, exit the game, copy the save to a flash drive, once merged, load and try to follow the trail. level and so on until victory. At level 18 the trophy should drop.

You can take it on the 15th, if you don’t miss anyone. I missed three or four, took the trophy at the beginning of level 16.
