How to unlock the Trial Master achievement in Archvale - Definitive Guide
There is one trial location in each major world/segment of the game. You’ll find them in areas without enemies, appearing as a pillar with a stone suspended above. Enter it, and you’ll be in a circular, moon-like arena. Once you touch the switch in the middle, a blue gem appears and orbs show up on the edges of the arena. The goal is to touch the gem six times per round (three rounds per trial) without being hit by various projectiles fired from the edges. The gem moves each time you touch it.
Some of them are reasonably easy, and others are more challenging, especially the third round in each trial. The good thing is, once you complete a wave, it’s done. And if you take a hit, you only have to start your current wave over by touching the switch again. As near as I can tell, there’s no time limit, so there’s no need to rush towards the gem and take a hit. Once all three rounds are completed, there’s a chest that appears with a powerful reward.

Still only 6 times as of today, but the counter does reset if you get hit before finishing a new wave

It would seem the amount of gems you need to touch is dependent on difficulty level selected.

Trials are all located in the overworld on random tiles. They're pedestals with a blue crystal on top. Interacting with it takes you to plant in space. Press the button in front of you, and you need to collect the crystals while dodging projectiles. There are three waves for every trial. Getting hit resets the current wave only, not the whole thing. You can't attack, and you don't lose health. You just need to move around, dodge, and dash to avoid projectiles while you collect the crystals. There is no time limit, so take your time and make sure you don't get hit. I actually liked to be fast at the start of a wave, grabbing at least two crystals before the projectiles start, and then be careful for the next few. Remember, you can dash through projectiles without getting hit, so use that to your advantage on some of the trials that are a little more chaotic.
