How to unlock the Well Read achievement in Archvale - Definitive Guide

The Arch Lexicon is a craftable item that becomes available in the anvil interface once the player has found one of the three required ingredients. The required ingredients are The Rift Codex, The Brinkreef Codex and The Tanglegrove Codex.

WARNING: The ingredients can be deleted through the inventory interface, and cannot be recovered once the game has saved. If you do this, you will have to start a new playthrough for this achievement. Don't be like me :)

It appears that the location of each of the ingredients is random, but they are always found in a fixed map chest, so be sure to uncover each map tile available to you.

The Rift Codex chest will be located in the lava biome, the Brinkreef Codex will be located in the underwater biome and the Tanglegrove Codex will be found in the jungle biome.

I think the maps are randomly generated, kept looking for a secret passage to find an unseen room on the map and ended up finding the Brinkreef codex further on.

I think so, or the different difficulties have different layouts 🤔

Lucky i was hoarding weapons as usual :) If you ask me, fully upgraded, this book is the best weapon in the game. It has speed, range and damage.

I messaged the developer on twitter and here is his response

Hey thank you so much for playing. So, I absolutely WILL add something to help people who have already trashed. An update is coming out which will prevent you from being able to do that in the first place, but there are a few critical bugs that need fixing on console platforms currently. So, we will add a way for you to get these items back on your save, but it won't be in the next update because we need to decide how we want to go about it and we need to get this critical patch out soon. Sorry about that :(

This doesn't look to be missable anymore, as I can't remove the codexes using the delete function in the inventory.

does anyone know if they made this available for people who might of deleted the books before they patched it? someone mentioned in the forums that the devs were aware and thinking of ways to make it available to the people who had already deleted the books.

What happens if you leave the screen without even picking it up? Is there a way to get it back?

I don’t think it’s missable anymore. The item delete button in the inventory is blacked out when you put an index over it now

If you do delete a book, the achievement can be rushed on easy in around 2-3 hours fairly comfortably so its not the worst thing ever. Just be sure to grab the scythe from the chest and use it to craft the better scythe. This will get you the DPS for the jungle lock, and buy all the health upgrades with a lot of good armour to survive the fire door.

Missable: If you accidently delete any of the three codex's (Tanglegrove, Brinkreef or Rift) you can't get them back and you'll have to start a new game to create the Archvale Lexicon.

To assemble the Archvale Lexicon you need to firstly collect all three codex's. These can be found in random surface chests in three different biomes. Ensure you search every square in each of following zones to find them:

1. The "Tanglegrove Codex" can be found in the Jungle biome (Tanglegrove).
2. The "Brinkreef Codex" can be found in the Underwater biome (Brinkreef).
3. The "Rift Codex" can be found in the Lava/Volcanic biome (The Rift).

Once you've collected all three codex's, simply travel to any town that has a "Blacksmith Anvil" to craft the "Archvale Lexicon" and the achievement will pop.

Note: While this achievement was previously missable, it no longer can be missed. It requires you to collect three Codex weapons and craft them into the Arch Lexicon. Previously, it was possible to accidentally throw away the Codeces needed and they'd be lost forever. However, the trash can icon is now disabled when interacting with these Codeces in your inventory. It's not possible to discard them anymore.

This achievement requires you to obtain three Codeces, each located in the final three regions of the game: one in Tanglegrove, one in Brinkreef, and one in Molten Rift. Like all world items, they will appear on a random world tile. However, they are in treasure chests in the center of a tile, by themselves, so as long as you check each tile they're pretty much impossible to miss. Once you have all three, head to an anvil in any town and scroll all the way to the bottom of what you can craft to find the Arch Lexicon. Craft it to unlock this achievement.
