How to unlock the Self-Sufficient achievement in Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? - Definitive Guide
In order to unlock this achievement you'll have to answer all the questions on your own in one playthrough. As in you can't use any of the three cheats to help you answer a question. When the credits roll after each playthrough this is where you'll see the award for "Independent Student" if you did it correctly. This achievement can be done solo in "Exam" mode, and in "Study" mode with 1-2 players. ["Study" mode with 3-8 players will activate modifiers in which group answers do not count towards this achievement. You'll receive the award "Wise Leader" instead of "Independent Student".]
An easy way to grind this achievement out is to play "Exam" mode, and answer the first three questions correctly on your own. Then during the second question of 2nd grade you can get that question wrong, and "Independent Student" will always pop up as an award during the credits.

I used “New Question” at first since they are very simple, then used “asked class”, and MOST IMPORTANTLY did “copy” last because the kid is not always correct. If they get it wrong, you fail. It still counts towards the achievement because you did use all 3.

The above comment isn’t correct, this achievement unlocks for NOT using cheats, not for using all 3 of them!
