How to unlock the The First Step (Episode 2) achievement in ARKANOID Live! - Definitive Guide

This one is a little harder than the episode 1 achievement due to the all the 2-hit silver blocks. It's still very doable, though.

- Make sure you pick 7 lives and turn enemies on.

- Be careful with your pickups. Laser (L), big paddle (E), slow (S) and the ball that destroys everything in its path (M) are good. Multiball (D) is good too but how wonderful it is depends on where your ball is when you catch it. If your ball is in good position then it can be a lifesaver.

- Don't worry about score - just concentrate on returning the ball.

- You'll pick up 1-2 extra lives as you play so you'll really have 8-9 lives.

If you don't get it straight away, give it another go or two. There's a big random component to Arkanoid and some playthroughs are easier than others due to luck.

The achievement unlocks as soon as you complete level 10.

Simple: make it through the first 10 levels of Episode 2 without ever dying and pressing the continue button. You will get this on your way to the "Certificate of Bones" achievement. It shouldn't be too tricky for most people, but to be safe, follow these 2 guidelines:

1) Set the gameplay to Easy, and use Barriers (max of 5). Also, turn enemies off.

2) Play with a friend*. 2 people is always better than 1. If you don't have a friend to play with, just turn on a second controller and leave it stationary. At least it raises your chances a little if you miss the ball.

*Co-op play is local only. Also, only the main profile will unlock this achievement.

Maybe it's personal taste, but I found this one much easier with lives instead of barrier. Why? Because some of the levels require a lot of luck to get just the right shot, which means that you're going to spend a lot of time just bouncing the ball around, which means that it's going to get *fast*.
Once it's going fast, you can very quickly work through all your barriers, but with lives, every time you lose a ball, the speed of the ball resets to slow, giving you a little more time to get the right shot.

That's a good point and a good way to try it. Thanks for the input. I did it ok with barriers, but yes, the ball did get going very fast at times, so this might help. Thanks.
