How to unlock the Fortified Regicide achievement in Armello - Definitive Guide

I got this with my Rot victory. When you have more rot and fight the king, you gain in dice the Rot value of the lower score. I had something like 9 and the King was sitting at 8, so that granted me 8 additional die.

Have cards in your hand that match your Burn status - Wyld if you're not corrupt, Rot if you are. Burning those cards gives you a guaranteed hit and a bonus die that is immediately rolled. It may behoove you to cast Mirror Shield before combat if only to stack Shields in combat. Remember, by the time you should attack the King his health will be quite low - one or two hearts at most. You only need to score a few hits - one, ideally - above his Shield score to win.

Throughout the course of your game, look for equipment that provide additional Shields automatically. Heavy Plate Armor is great despite the -1 AP cost, which is obviated from the Palace/peril/"wait a turn before attacking" mechanic anyways.

Barnaby's Hero power allows him to cycle equipment cards with 0 cost after equipping an item once, so playing as him with the Wits ring will allow you to cycle equipment cards pretty fast. Otherwise, you can try your luck with Dungeon Treasures. Since I was going for a Rot victory, however, I played as Sana and exploited high Spirit + Rot dice bonus for tons of rolls.

An important note about this game: Armello works on a seed system. The game saves at the start of each turn (either dawn or dusk), right before Banes, Soldiers, and the King make their move. If you start a turn by drawing three cards from the Item deck, quit, and reload, then draw Item cards again, the cards will be the same. This is also true for Quest success/failures and, from my experiences playing this game, AI actions. The only things that remain random are Battle rolls and Peril rolls. You may feel cheesy, but, after burning Cards and rolling the Dice in combat with the King, if things aren't going your way, pause and quit. When you reload, you'll be given another chance to kill and win.

I would also add, I did this during my rot victory playthrough, and Fang is ideal for this. He'll yank a LOT of rot dice if you're ahead of the king at the end, and if you slaughter him (Kill+3 or 4 I believe) he won't hit back, and as you're likely going in late due to needing the right amount of rot, it won't take too much to get him. I rolled 18 dice on my attack so I not only slaughtered, I annihilated.

This can be a tough trophy to obtain as the King has many dice rolls, and an item that means any dice of yours which miss he gets back as extra dice rolls. The best course of action is to play as a character that gets gold easily, someone like Amber or Barnaby. Using these characters you will want to keep drawing item cards and entering dungeons in order to get the best equipment and followers possible. If you are lucky enough to draw the right cards you could be going into battle with the King with over 10 shields before you have even rolled your dice.

Keep a look out for the treasure Royal Shield when you get your quests:

As this item makes all missed dice rolls become a shield, negating the King's extra dice roll. Once you feel thoroughly prepared, enter the castle and face the King. Attack him, and kill him without taking any damage at all and the trophy is yours.
