This is cumulative across all stages, and doesn't need to be unique stages. You could, if you wanted, play through the first stage six times in a row and unlock this. However, you should be able to progress naturally, upgrading along the way, and beat six stages without any real issues. Either way, you'll unlock this naturally as you progress through all of the stages in the game.
