Purchase a shotgun and play through the game killing as many as you can with it. In my experience, I had this achievement after about two missions.
The shotgun is especially useful for its radius, but can also be fairly good in long range.
On the hardest level of difficulty, and provided the enemy was not in cover, I could easily take them out in a single shot from across a room using the second shotgun.

Does the under barrel shotgun for the assault rifles count towards this total?

I can't confirm. Never used under barrels. I'll try to if I can get a hold of the game again.

purchase the doa-x or play through the game once to get this and play the through the campiagn again and you should unlock this achievment

100% works, Recruit difficulty, Single player or CO-OP
Weapons: DAO-X, RPG
Go onto level ''Aircraft Carrier'' and get to the section whereby you have to use the harrier to blow open a metal door. Use RPG to kill the heavy armour guy then turn left and run around the stationary missiles so your looking at the brightly lit opening.
Use your shotgun to kill the enemy. Can get up-to 9 kills depending on if you team mate gets the kills.
*Secondary achievement available* Running Man (Read achievement description and the rest if obvious)
