How to unlock the Ascended achievement in Ascend Hand of Kul - Definitive Guide
In the crusade tab of the menus, you can choose to ascend your caos warrior every 5 levels. So go ahead and do it as soon as you hit level 5. Your character will become an AI instrument of your chosen god to be sent to take control of other players' shrines and alters. The level cap will be increased by 5, you get a boon for all your warriors, and you will lose 50% of your XP but you have an opportunity to "legacy" an item to use on all your future caos. You can also purchase an additional legacy pillar for 1000 souls and each successive one is doubled in cost (2k, 4k, 8k, and so on). I would highly suggest putting any and all spells on the pillars since they cost many souls (level 1 is 15k, level 2 is 50K!).

Started playing before I came here, so my 1st ascend wasn't until L 8, so now I can't ascend again until L 13. Doing this at L 5 is definitely the best choice.
Also, it seems like you should sell everything you're not going to make legacy before ascending as well.

I just started playing a few days ago ascended once and about to again. Sold all the items that i would lose and then went to the spells and they are legacy items as soon as they are unlocked it seems because i got IMPALE after i did it and it is legacy along with my armor and helmet i put on my 2 pillars the 1st time.

As far as legacy goes, I suggest only using the pillars for equipment. Any spells you have equipped automatically are made legacy and once any item or spell is made legacy it is always in you inventory unless you sell it. I have 6 spells and never had to put any on a pillar as I swapped one out mid play.
