How to unlock the Master and Commander achievement in Ascend Hand of Kul - Definitive Guide
This is easy, this is how you do it. After you have ascended at least once, you go to your main map, hit right trigger and it will bring up the crusader map. This is where you can pick an altar that you CONTROL, key word there, and send your ascended character there,. You can send them multiple times and to more than one different location. Sooner or later you will get it.
EDIT: Making sure to gear your warrior before ascending, will help the process too!

My best tip is make sure you are currently in control of all your shrines and altars (meaning they are aligned to your current god and not a previous one) and then take a break.
The game will send your champions out randomly when you're logged out and almost everyone says they got the achievement when logging in and not while playing. So take a day off, play something else, just don't log in for 24 hours and then see if it unlocks for you the next time you log in.
Since you keep all your ascended even after transcending, you don't have to worry about starting from scratch. The reason it seems to take so long to get a fight while you're playing is that you don't automatically get set up, but are put in a queue and eventually your champion is sent to do battle.
With the amount of people playing and all the champions in creation this can take quite a bit of time. And then more than likely if when you get impatient you send your champ somewhere else or to the same place again, you get placed at the back of the queue and start the wait all over.
People who've played the beta make it sound like this should be quick and easy, but remember they were playing with a significantly smaller population, so getting fights was faster and earning wins came quicker.
Trust me when I say this will come, but it'll happen when you least expect it.

Very useful information, have an upvote. First time I sent them somewhere they both died, second time I got this.
What makes me laugh though, is the underequipped scrub I ascended at level ten when I knew nothing about the game has three kills, while the one I ascended next with a really good weapon has none. Heh O_o

SERVERS CLOSED!
This achievement is pretty much luck-based, for the most part our champions get sent out to people who don't even play the game anymore or simply ignore our invasions.
If like me you're having trouble getting this to pop < EDIT: got the achievement finally, please join my gaming sessions which I have put up for each month until server closure, Out of the 90+ players in the first session (Sept) I managed to run into 1 player and help him out, about 40 guys have now been getting the achievement from that previous session so it seems (or not) we've ran into eachother on the rare occassion, but it's better than nothing right. I really hope we can all get the achievement before it's too late!

Boosting Gaming Session for Ascend: Hand of Kul
Tips:
-NOTE: There is not enough time left to mess around with this tip!
Taking a 48hr or even aweek long break with a whole bunch of altars/shrines captured (locally) increase the chances of you're champion being sent out.
-On occassion you will see a random players gamertag in the top left corner, telling you that you're champion has took one of their altars/shrines; if you are fast enough to remember that gamertag you can send them a message or try to have a chat and see if they are willing to help with this achievement; most of the time these guys don't speak english or don't even have the update to get back on the game lol but you never know you might run into somebody with a high gamerscore or completion.
-You should farm The Battlements or another with god dungeons (It has Light, Dark and Void) dungeons for champions, if you use a mask boost to enter another alignments dungeon and start to run out of time you can simply save and exit; however this game takes ages to load and occassionally the servers will mess up and send back to the main menu again but it's worth a try.
Around 90% of the time you will find champions 5 levels above you and they will be the exact same alignment of that very dungeon.
-Try to just die to everybody and spread the achievement around because you never know some people might not know TA exists and want this achievement too, and kill them after to open a slot for somebody else.
-If you're ascending, switch gods to have every single altar/shrine spawn fresh invasions of you're previous god.
-Upon ascending or transcending you're champion immediately gets sent out to fight, so check that top left corner as usual.
-If you really want to play, use a dummy account and you might find yourself and others easier; this has to be gold of course or at least on a 48hr trial.
-I recommend you bookmark/save this thread and look at it regularly:
Please lose to my ascended warrior :)
Any other tips please comment!

"Don't play the game too much, It's been proven that manually invading is close to useless."
Can't this be avoided by simply choosing not to manually invade, or are there other benefits of not playing the game too much (other than point #1 of taking up to a week off with all local points captured)?

Good updated guide for this achievement. Not sure about the don't play the game portion because as long as you aren't manually invading, it should be ok.

First thing to know is that the game can also send your ascended out to fight while you're offline. Most people I talk to seem to get this achievement when logging in, so there might be issues with sending guys out to fight right now. Best bet, take a day off from the game and come back 24 hours later to see if they had any success. Wait until you have maybe 4 ascended though, so you have better odds.
One thing people don't think about when ascending is what spells they want their ascended to have. Whatever 5, or less, spells you have equipped will be what they use all the time. I've fought a lot of ascended and the best spells to have are AOE, Meteor Storm and Black Hole being two of the best. These spells can eat away at an unwary players HP before they notice.
Main thing to keep in mind is that what works on AI controlled enemies and ascended doesn't always work the same on a real player. Seekers is good due to it's damage, but Ionized Bolt and Fireball only fire one shot and the effect they have doesn't seem to do much. You might also want to have a buff spell from either Light or Dark equipped. And don't try to be cute with Confuse, it's close to useless.
In regards to runes I might suggest health runes for armor, since +AC runes don't change the damage from spells and health runes seem to appear in chests regularly. The best option would be to buy runes that give 25% resist to a particular spell type, Dark, Light or Void. Low levels I'd opt for Dark resist, then a little of everything later. By the later levels you'll be seeing Gold stuff which has 2 slots, so you can really stack the resists. Non-Elemental resist is useless though since only basic trolls have that kind of magic.
Weapon rune wise I'd suggest either Spell enhancement or Crit runes. A chance for double damage will always be more useful than a 15 to 30% damage increase. Try to keep your weapon to something small and fast as opposed to something big. You only have to hit one person, not a horde of enemies. Also legacy gear will stay equipped to an ascended champion and also carry over to a new Caos, so don't skimp on good stuff for your champ.
Hope this can help some people improve their win/loss record, or at the very least win 1 fight lol. This can be a somewhat luck based achievement, but I'm sure with patience anyone can get it. You have to Ascend 8 times while going for the Transcend achievement, so I'd say the odds of you not getting this achievement are pretty low. If you are getting close to transcending, get together a set of Gold armor, put on a bunch of resist runes and a spell boosting weapon and you might have enough.
EDIT: And in case you aren't aware, you do keep your ascended champions when you transcend, so this achievement is not missable in any way.

just got this today, I,ve ascended once and have done nothing to send my ascended out to fight, so yes looks like the AI does it for you.

Yeah, I believe the best way is to definitely take a 24 hour break. I finally just did that after I got 5 Ascended Champions, and did just that and it unlocked. Got exactly one kill which is all I need anyways haha. XD

This might work for people who are grinding the Ring of Bones and still need the achievement:
At the end of each run, when you go to the map screen to warp in again, quickly hit the right trigger and invade the shrine next to the xp farming spot. Make sure you have plenty of long distance spells, such as seekers, fireballs, etc. Your character will be able to hit other players with projectiles while they are fighting waves of enemies, and I assume most players will ignore you and focus on getting xp. This is how I got the achievement, and I've died a few times farming for xp from other invaders. I know it's a shot in the dark, but it might work and it doesn't take you much extra time, since you're already going to the map screen every minute or two.
