How to unlock the Children of Riak achievement in Ashen - Definitive Guide
I did this solo with the help of the AI, it includes a skip I think some people may appreciate.
Pasted from the video description:
How I beat Riak on Children of Sissna, I used a skip to get to the boss door faster and easier.
to mimic this select Umbral Veil as your main Talisman, run through the first section and make your AI fight the 2 enemies.
Once they get downed the enemies will come after you, where you are standing doesnt seem to matter too much but I found rolling as soon as you get up gives you a better shot at wall clipping.
If you are fast enough to enter the boss fight you will be able to revive your AI, I found you could get to the boss fight without getting your AI downed but it was less consistent.
The fight itself is very easy but the second phase helmet slam will instakill you unless you block with heaps of stamina.

It is possible to survive the helmet slam attack, but probably only with a similar setup like this. My max HP was at 148, I wore Imperial Armor (80 Defense, 25% Damage Reduction) and used a Dwale potion. That allowed me to survive the slam attack and get away to heal at next opportunity which made it more doable for me because he would always end up killing me by randomly doing that when I didn't expect it.

Yeah, just stay in his face at all times and he's pretty simple.

For anyone having trouble I have found by far the easiest method to beat him in COS difficulty
BRING LOADS OF SPEARS AND STURM SPIRITS
This relies on a couple of glitches, first you have to have the Umbra Veil talisman equipped to glitch through the wall, it’s pretty tough but once you find the right place then it’s pretty consistent, take out the enemies below and follow the jumps exactly, once the boss fight starts you need to follow the video very precisely too, I had countless tries where I would get to the door and it would suddenly reappear!
Once you get all of that to work the first phase is the hardest, don’t use spears for this for a couple reasons, you need to time your strikes and then roll back without going back into the arena, I found using a long range weapon and attacking once as he scream then backing off quickly was best
Once he is down to half health he will respawn you back into the arena, again follow the video precisely to get back out, this is why you don’t want to use spears on the first phase as if you mess up this part then you have wasted a ton of spears and will have to go get more which in turn wastes time!
If you get out during the second stage then it’s all but done, simply take a Strum Spirit and rain spears on him, time you’re shots as he get quite fidgety stuck there and last thing you want is to waste a ton of spears and run out (like I did!)
it’s a slow method and took me a few hours to gather everything and get it all working but it’s a damn site easier than trying to fight him!
Good luck and remember patience

Thank you! This still works as of 7/30/22. I needed about 160 exploding spears with fury talisman (bonus damage when companion dead) to clear out the 3 guys and completely kill Riak (used spears both phases with sturm spirits). To anyone struggling make sure you are literally running into the way as you come around the corner for the door and you'll get through every time.
