How to unlock the Master of the Blade achievement in Ashes Cricket 2009 - Definitive Guide

The trick to this is more in regard to the challenges, the batting lessons are pretty easy to complete despite taking a bit of time. The hardest of the challenges is the challenge where six Six shots must be made and survive 6 overs of spin bowling with a run rate of 8 per over.

Six Six Shots is easy once you've mastered back foot loft striking, play the hook shot and after a bit of time you should get it.

Survive 6 overs of spin bolwing, 8 per over, is easily the hardest. Don't get lured into any shots that don't attack your wicket, the fielding is hard to beat unless the ball is bowled directly toward you, past the wicket, leaving it open to advance down the pitch (LB and LT together) and loft shot in the open spaces. Remember there is 6 overs, plenty of shots considering you might only need 2 or 3 good hits in an over.

Just got it! Thanks for the advice. Having the confidence to leave so many shots was the key.

Yep, trying the last challenge, thanks for the info. Had one good go before bed last night where I was leaving the leg spinners. Got the required run rate well before the 5th over and unfortunately edged one to the keeper. With a few expletives thrown in.....

Anything bowled at wicket gets advanced hit back down the ground. Unless it is the leg spinner who seems to like bowling always at the wicket who gets clobbered to the on side (left side of field).

Will try to implement Tony's suggestion and hopefully get it!

Its a really hard achievement to get and one of the problems is that the fielding is hard to beat. I tend to only attack balls that will have a good chance of taking the wicket out. Also i often was caught going for a low drive and being caught, lofted into areas is best. When i first tried this i found that i was getting over zealous and trying to knock runs on every ball, when i did this i left at least 2 balls per over that i deemed dangerous, you only need two boundaries in each over to do it. I know it's hard though and it takes alot of trial and error, Also another thing, i wouldn't use defending shots too much either, if they are missed timed then the Keeper will just catch you every time.

Good luck mate.

This guide is for Beefy's Challenge 5 and 6.

Beefy's Challenge 5: Hit six sixes in a single over.

HOW I DID IT:
- Use RS to position your batsman as close to the ball as posible or behind it.
- Hold LT+LB and down on the LS
- Press B to loft the ball.

***IF timed correctly the ball should be lofted back over the bowler's head for 6, every time. The only problem with this task is the amount of no-balls the bowler bowls, this makes the challenge harder. I had 3 no-balls so I actually hit 9 sixes in a row.

Beefy's Challenge 6: Score eight runs per over against spin attack.

*Firstly let me say this can be easily misunderstood. You DO NOT have to only score 8 and over. What you MUST do is score 48 runs or more without getting out, for the full 6 overs.

Off-side the ball bowled going left into the body. (in this case)
Leg-side the ball bowled going right away from the body. (in this case)

HOW I DID IT:

A- When the ball is bowled to your leg-side the majority of them will be bowled far right of your wicket. LEAVE THEM ALL, UNLESS you think one is in line with your stumps and could hit them in that case just defend (diagionally down-right on LS and press X)

B- When the ball is bowled on your off-side (this is where I scored all of my runs) Hold LT+LB and use LS to find a gap on the left side and B to loft the ball. Remember if you miss the ball to Press B again to return behind the crease.

***I scored 66 runs in three overs all on the offside only! Then all I did was defend for the new two overs, (press X and diagionally down-left when bowled to my offside and down-right IF the ball on my leg-side was looking to go near my wicket.

Good Luck. Feel free to message me for help/advice.

This is a pretty easy trophy. All you need to do is complete the batting lessons and challenges, some are tricky and may take longer than others, but you should get this trophy pretty easily. There are 6 challenges: the only one that will give you any trouble is challenge #6 because of the tight field but you should achieve it within a couple of goes.

Complete the lessons found under "Legends Coaching" on the Menu, complete all the challenges and the achievement will unlock. The last challenge may be a little tricky.
