How to unlock the Tough Nut achievement in Ashes Cricket - Definitive Guide

You can save time waiting for the new ball to become available by defining a custom match type in the Academy where the new ball is available after 1 over.

Specifically, from iiAssassinXxii in the comments:
Go to 'Cricket Academy' -> 'Match Type Creator' -> 'New' -> under the section titled 'Rules, look for the 'New Ball Available' option. Set that to 1. Go to the bottom of the page and save it. Then when you start a match, look for your game mode titled 'New' (unless you retitled it earlier). Easier if you have a second controller.
If you play a custom match using your new match type, you'll get a prompt at the start of every over saying the new ball is available.

Press cn_up and then cn_Y to accept the new ball. Take a wicket and the achievement will pop.

New balls keep coming every over, so you'll have essentially unlimited chances

Solution fails to mention that you need to press the left analogue stick in first, then Up on the D-Pad and Y to accept the new ball

You could do with adding in about recommended settings that should be used. The guide points you roughly in the right direction but needs modifying to be more helpful really.

I’ve gotten a wicket several times after taking a new ball but no achievement. What am I doing wrong?

Are you doing it in the first over after receiving the new ball? Unless you changed the rules, you will probably have 6 balls in which to take the wicket.

I would get a wicket on the first delivery after getting new ball.

Good solution but iiAssassinXxii is right, it would be helpful to update the guide with more information - I did as you said and as Assassin said and it worked like a charm!

I just switched the number of balls per over to 3' instead of '6', which helped me get the achievement a little quicker.

If using the 2 controller method, get the opposition to run them selves out by keep pressing X to run as you throw the ball at the wickets A

You need to push the Left Analog stick in order to get the menu to pop up.

The new ball is normally only issued after 80 overs have been bowled in the same innings of a test match, therefore this could take a long time to even get an opportunity to attempt. Fortunately, you can create a Custom Match in the Match Type Creator, whereby a New Ball can be issued every Over. Simply create a match and make sure this option is selected. Then, start a new game, making sure the Match Type is selected as your new custom match. Opt to bowl then from the 2nd over, a new ball will be made available. Take the new ball and then proceed to ball lots of Full Balls or Yorkers. It may take a few overs but by continuously selected the Take New Ball option at the start of each over, eventually you will take a wicket and achieve the trophy.
