This Achievement is heavily dependent on tokens and if you don't want to spend money, prepare to spend a lot of time on this grindy achievement. Actually if you look at the time gap between my last two achievements in this game, you will notice a 10 months gap. That says it all!
As I said, the real challenge here is getting Tokens (and in some degree, Credits) to unlock certain cars. The events themselves are not that challenging. Once you have the right car with quite a few upgrades, you shouldn't have any trouble 5 staring any event.
Since the game progress and achievements automatically sync between both versions, I recommend playing Asphalt 8 on Windows 8/10 using a controller. I myself started the game on my Lumia 520 and completed it on Windows 10 using my Xbox One controller. However this is not necessary and you can totally complete the game on your phone.

Any idea if there's a version of this game it can be obtained on? I only encountered versions that require you to update the game.

At the moment it drops regardless of how far you've progressed in your career. I just clicked on the box icon in the game and saw that I had it. In the Xbox companion it was knocked out today. My God, a miracle happened! Three years of suffering are over!
P.S. On one very famous forum this is what is written: "Thanks to everyone in the comments who recently posted about unlocking this achievement by simply syncing their save data from another device. I can confirm for myself that it holds up great.
When you launch the game on a new device (I used a Windows 10 laptop), you can connect your Xbox account using the Xbox icon in the top right corner of the main menu or by going to Settings -> Profile -> Social -> Sign in (Xbox). I had some issues signing in after pressing these buttons and waiting for a while, but after simply restarting the game, I was told that I had a remote save (my Xbox account) and a local save (no progress). Just select Remote Save and shortly after you will hear the achievement pop sound. Personally, I did not see the achievement anywhere on the screen other than hearing the achievement pop sound. However, after checking my achievements in this game, I just unlocked this one.
I was already playing on a Win 10 computer and didn't load old saves, I just went into my Live profile in the game. So it's not necessary to use a new device.
