How to unlock the A True Assassin achievement in Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia - Definitive Guide
Unlike the Plus Hard playthrough in AC Chronicles: China and AC Chronicles: India (Trilogy Pack only), you do not need to do a no-kill, flawless run during your Plus Hard playthrough. You just need to make sure you never alert (red indicators) an enemy over all 10 Sequences. Being seen (yellow) is fine.
The easiest way to check whether you're on the right track is if you get a Gold rating at each checkpoint of the level you're in. But sometimes things happen, and you could get a Silver or Bronze ranking. At that point, check the score of the ranking. If there's a number under “times seen,” you're fine. If there's a tally under “times alerted,” then you need to restart the checkpoint and try again.
PurrPleeHaze has put together a YouTube Plus Hard/No Alert walkthrough; find it HERE. It is not a flawless run, so if you still have Shadow/Assassin/Silencer Gold rankings to get, tailor your approach accordingly (or just grind it out later).
This is the big one, and takes a bit of skill and perseverance. On Plus Hard difficulty, unlocked for completing the game on Normal, you have just one health bar, and enemy vision cones can only be seen in Eagle Vision. Also, for this achievement, you cannot be seen once, and no bodies may be found. In effect, you need to straight-Gold the game. If at any time you or a dead body are seen, you have to restart from your last checkpoint.
Be aware that you can use any play style to complete the game, as long as you always score Gold. In many places, taking out enemies, especially with Helix Blade kills (which on Plus Hard can be used from the beginning of the game) can make many parts of the game a whole lot easier. Try to get the bonuses that give you extra smoke bombs during your Normal playthrough, since they can also make numerous sections of the game much simpler.
There are several sections that warrant special consideration.
- The part where you first rescue Anastasia from the revolutionaries may flash a red 'ALERT' on top of the screen. This does not void this achievement.
- In two of the sniping sections, I received a few alerts for bodies being found. In at least one section, these are unavoidable, although in others, may be averted by shooting at walls to separate enemies standing next to each other, then quickly sniping them while they are looking away from each other. Nevertheless, it may be that these do not void this achievement.
- When playing as Anastasia and opening windows for Nikolai to snipe at enemies, they may go into a 'body found' alert. These, also, do not seem to void your achievement.
The game tracks this achievement on a mission-by-mission basis. To make sure, you can check your Xbox achievement tracker after each completed mission to see if your counter has gone up by 10%. If it hasn't, you need to replay the mission from the Memory Select menu.
You only have one health bar, so the sniping sections at the ends of Memories 7 and 10 can be quite difficult since you can be killed with one hit. It may be necessary to memorize the placement of hostile shooters and in which order they appear. When sniping the tank at the very end of the game, at every sniping post, first quickly shoot the three machine gunners before focusing on the tank's weak spot. That does not mean that you can't be killed by a random burst from the tank itself, but makes instant death a bit less likely.
I promise you that you will be playing several parts of the game over and over during this run, but do not despair. Eventually, you will do it.
