How to unlock the Ben-Hur achievement in Assassin's Creed Origins - Definitive Guide

In Kanopos Nome, travel to the Hippodrome and simply win the first tournament. I recommend the first tournament so it is more easier. The tournament is split into 3 races, I came 3rd in my first race but managed to win the other 2 and that was enough for me to win! Taking out other racers is a good way to make sure they don't get in front of you...

The Hippodrome is unlocked after progressing in the story. This mode consists of winning war chariot races. You don’t have to get first place in every race, but you must obtain the most points at the end of the three races by placing highly.

The handling on the chariots is shoddy at best, so a general tip is to hold on the straights and cut across to make hard rights on the curves. Don’t bother braking as it will probably throw you off. Once you win the first tournament, the achievement will unlock.

You won't get a trophy for a high-speed race with ghosts.
You need to win one of the tournaments (where there are 3 races in a row).
You don't have to run in every race (I came 3rd, then 1st and then 3rd again), but you need to win the tournament based on total points.

For winning each tournament race they give 300 coins, for completing the last one they also add a “golden” horse to your inventory, after which elite tournaments open - the same races only with faster opponents and a reward of 400 coins.
