How to unlock the Overdesign II achievement in Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Definitive Guide

Taken from my solution on TrueAchievements:

Here’s a method that requires no glitching or real combat. You can do this at a level commensurate with your arrival in England.

Once you’ve reached England, fast travel back to Norway. Then, fast travel or sail to Alrekstad. These soldiers will all be level 280 or so and will not attack you no matter what you do. You can whittle down the health of any soldier that has a shield with your bow, sneak attack, or regular attack. Once you’ve gotten them down to a sliver, go and stand on one of the braziers until you are fully aflame. Once you’re ablaze, attack the target until they’re dead. Provided you still look like Ghost Rider, it’ll count.

Rinse and repeat until you have the three.

Easiest way I did it was half and half Thanks to Powerpyx. Go to the southern most sync point in Hamtunscire and the town of Werham. There are a few big Standard Bearers that are the best targets. The area is 340. Make sure you are on 300. (Reset skills if you are above 300). Make sure you have no "fire resistant" skills unlock otherwise it will take you forever to start burning and it will go out quick.

These Standard bearers thrown flame bombs, so stand far away from them. The also throw their spears. Make sure you have the skill unlocked to throw their weapon back at them. If they throw a bomb, stand in the fire and once you are burning, wait for them to throw their spear at you, if you parry correctly and throw the spear back at them, it is a 1 hit kill. Do this 3 times and you got it. You don't have to be burning constantly to get this trophy. Just make sure they don't lose vision of you.

This is probably the most difficult achievement in the game, not because of the skill required but because of the very strict and specific requirements. The description is a bit unclear, so here is more detail: you need to kill 3 of the large Shield Bearer enemies (the ones with the big ornate shields and the large pole with a banner at the top) while you are on fire (indicated by the little red fire symbol appearing above your health bar; do NOT rely on only the presence of flames on your character), and on top of that, the three enemies need to have a red skull next to their health, indicating they are far above your power level. One point to clarify is that this achievement can be done on Easy difficulty; it does NOT require you to be playing on Hard difficulty. Another point to clarify is that you do NOT need to be on fire the entire time you fight and kill these enemies. All that matters is that the killing blow is delivered while you are on fire.

There seems to be only one really reliable place to obtain this achievement, and that is in the southwest area of Hamtunscire, England. Note that this area has a recommended level of 340. In order for the enemies to be considered hard difficulty (red skull icon next to their health), they need to be at least 40 levels above your power level. Because of that, I recommend attempting this achievement (at least in this location) once you've reached at least level 250, but not further than 290, just to be safe. If you've already leveled past that, you can go to your skill tree and hold button-x.png on nodes/skills to remove them and lower your power level. Another thing I recommend doing is using skill points in the top red section of the tree to improve fire resistence and reduce fire damage. You'll spend a decent amount of time on fire, and don't want to have to worry about dying from fire damage. You should also upgrade your quiver at least twice and make sure your arrows are fully stocked, because arrows make this achievement easier. One last recommendation is to have at least 3 rations on hand, just to ensure you don't die.

Once ready, go to the enemy base where the fast travel viewpoint is located, southwest of Wincestre, in Werham. At this base, you'll see it is surrounded by spikes, and there is only one entrance. At this entrance are two of the shielded enemies. Inside the base, there is an archer straight ahead, a shielded enemy on the left of him, and another shielded enemy on the far right of him. I will describe the method I used. First, silently approach the entrance and shoot one of the shielded enemies in the head. This should take off a large chunk of his health. Try to shoot the same one or the other a couple times. Fight the two of them right at the entrance until they both have very low health, ensuring you don't kill either of them. Now run inside and straight ahead and kill the archer. Look left with Odin's Sight and you should spot another shielded enemy, who may already be approaching you. The other two shielded enemies will hang out near the entrance still. Whittle down this third enemy's health, just like the first two. Now that you have three shielded enemies with low health, you need to get set on fire and then kill them. I found the best way to do this was to climb up on the roof of the building next to where the archer was, and drop a torch on the roof. This will set the entire roof on fire. Stand on the roof while it's on fire and you should stay on fire the entire time. Now, shoot the shielded enemies with your bow to finish them off while you're on fire.

An important thing to highlight here is that the enemies must die from damage from your weapons. If your arrows get lit on fire while on the roof, and your flaming arrow sets the enemy on fire, and he dies from fire damage, it will NOT count for this achievement. Likewise, if one enemy accidentally kills the other it won't count, but that is a rarer occurance. Also, using the Missile Reversal skill to throw their spear back at them does NOT count for this achievement. To avoid your arrows lighting on fire, stand near the edge of the roof so you aren't engulfed in flames. Wait for the enemies to pull back to throw a spear, and they will be exposed for an arrow. Kill all three this way and you should unlock the achievement.

The reason I mentioned a fourth shielded enemy above is because he is a good backup if the achievement doesn't unlock for you after killing the first three. For me, the achievement didn't unlock, so I ran to the other side of the roof and shot arrows at that fourth enemy until he died, and when he died my achievement unlocked. So keep in mind you have a fourth enemy available in case the achievement doesn't immediately unlock after the third dies.

Elite warriors in this case are those who are much higher in level than you (red skull sign near the health bar), if there are no such left in the game, then reset your skills to lose a power level. For simplicity, you can reduce the difficulty to easy. After that, bring the HP of three fighters with shields to the minimum (dodge and hit in the back so as not to break their shield), set yourself on fire and kill them. You do not need to try to kill all three in one fire, you can kill them one by one, setting yourself on fire again after each - the main thing is not to leave the battle.

The video guide shows a difficult method, everything is much simpler. The character's level must be less than 300 (I reset everything and poured in only 295 points). We go into the camp in this place, where two big guys are standing and aggro them (it is not necessary to beat them, remove HP). There will be a house on the right, throw a torch on the roof, stand on the fire and reflect their flying spears back. 2 spears and he is defeated. On the other side of the house there is a third big guy - aggro him, repeat from the roof and the trophy is yours

If you didn't succeed the first time, don't worry, go deeper into the territory. Look for regular infantry with shields, climb onto houses with thatched roofs, set the roof on fire and shoot (as described above) at these infantry.

Addition to Del-Vey's answer:
Often the red ring is buggy, I don't know why, I set fire to a thatched roof right under me, it burned like a match and there was nothing, it went out, lit up again and everything was fine

completed the quest as presented in the first video. There are plenty of shield bearers there, I counted 6 for sure, the only thing is, there may be a bug, after killing 4 shield bearers, the trophy did not drop, I left the settlement and ran away, so the wanted level dropped, and the trophy dropped.

You don't have to reset the level, just set the enemy level scaling to "enhanced" in the battle difficulty settings.

In general, as in the video, I did not succeed, either the grass and other crap for some reason did not want to catch fire, or the guards did not want to throw incendiary bombs. In short, I did it in Lincoln, first I set fire to the cart with a torch (we always have one) that stands behind the gate, when you jump into it while it is burning, a FULL burning BUFF is immediately hung. Then there are two guards with shields at the gate, I had lvl 90 power, they had 160, I took two daggers, approached, hit one in the back with a hidden attack and then lowered his health to almost 0 with quick blows, after which they ran after me, I jumped into the cart, caught fire and then finished him off with a Valkyrie attack. It is not necessary to kill 3 at once, the trophy is cumulative, but as I understand it, the MAIN THING is that you have a FULL burning buff.

Killing with your hands is not necessary. You can bring the enemy's health to critical and use the "Piercing Harpoon" ability. Or any other ability that hits at a distance. The main thing is to be on fire at this time.

P.S. The method with the harpoon has been tested, I did it myself.

Everything is done even easier. Find the territory where the standard-bearers will be from the red square and above. I did it in some abbey. Then look for a bowl of fire or set fire to the nearest house with a thatched roof and stand in the fire. You should also have a skill for returning projectiles pumped up. And that's it. Bait them to throw spears and just throw them back. The level does not matter, because the spear will knock them down half the HP. The main thing is not to forget to heal.
And yes, the trophy is cumulative, not all three at once.

It is not necessary to kill three at once in one battle, you can kill them one by one, the main thing is to burn during the kill. A convenient place as in the video, especially on two guards at the entrance. You kill the first one from behind with a hidden blade, throw an axe at the second one automatically, but miss pressing the instant kill (thereby taking away half of his XP), finish him off before a few remaining hits and wait until he throws a fire bomb, catch fire from it and finish him off. You will respawn in this city and again, until you kill three.

Indeed, the Werham location is great for this trophy, there are a lot of shieldmen there, but it is much easier to do it this way: At ~280 level, with the "Arrow Reflection" ability pumped up, set fire to bundles of hay with a torch and catch the spears that the standard-bearers throw. So you may only need 2 spears to kill the enemy. This is much faster and safer than bringing the enemy's health level to a minimum in battle.

It turned out that the trophy is quite easy, it took about 3 minutes in total. Move to the point from the video (I had to lower my level to 318), the fast travel point is just inside the town on the church. Jump down, there is the entrance guarded by the first victim, go a little forward and see houses with thatched roofs, jump on the house, set fire to the roof and shoot the first victim with a bow, there is a canopy with a thatched roof nearby, the same trick - set fire and there are two victims approaching in turn, they are also shot with a bow and voila, the prize is yours. Just try not to get hit by their spear throws, otherwise you can run into a bug when your character falls and can no longer get up and you will have to reboot.

As I did, after many unsuccessful attempts:

- teleport to the tower, which is in the video from the first hint. It is advisable to have as much food as possible and filled adrenaline cells in stock
- jump down and in the same church building attack the guard-standard-bearer with a large shield (standing at the door to the left of the hay). Without killing, but trying to take away as much health as possible. With a two-handed axe at level 280, if you attack with the R2 button (powerful attack), the hero will not kill him, but will take away half of his HP
- we run out to the second standard-bearer, at the other doors we also take down as much HP as possible (you can throw a harpoon at the wall)
- we run further along the road, repeat the procedure with the same third standard-bearer. Do not forget to dodge the spears
- We return to the church and see a house with a thatched roof nearby. We set the roof on fire with a torch, wait until it flares up and climb onto it
- From the roof, while it is burning, we shoot at the guards with a bow, trying to kill them.
- Ideally, you should lure the guards closer to the house and finish them off with a harpoon from the roof or hand-to-hand combat in battle (but be sure to burn at this moment). To make the standard-bearer run after you (if he throws spears/bombs) - run closer and wait until he picks up the flag

If you encountered a bug like me, when the conditions were met, the trophy did not drop, then still kill three shieldmen as needed, then teleport to another place, and then back to Verkham, find one shieldman and kill him while in the fire, then the trophy will drop.

You can also knock them out with your fists and put them in one place to then kill them all at once.

I can add from myself that I definitely killed 3 elite fighters in more than one battle. Based on 1 hint on the video, I did as there but it didn't count the first time, I did it 2 times, then 3 times and this time with three elite fighters alive I killed one in the fire and the trophy dropped, apparently it adds up.
Try it!

1. If mobs do not appear upon respawn, you need to teleport to any other location and then teleport back to the original one. If you meditate or just teleport immediately to the viewpoint in the city, the mobs will not respawn.
2. All mobs with shields count, not just those with unbreakable shields. However, if the shield is damaged but not destroyed, the mob is still protected.

ALL of the above hints are wrong or emphasize the wrong thing. If you can't get the trophy, it's because you're not really on fire.

There are two states of burning in the game. Light and full. When full, you hear the sound of KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK, and the gamepad echoes it with a kickback. If this is not the case, then you are not technically burning. To catch fire, it is not enough to just rub against a burning haystack. You need to stop and stand straight for two seconds without twitching. When you catch fire and the sound and vibration appear (as well as the countdown to extinction in the form of a red ring in the lower left corner) - that's when you finish it off. Everything else does not matter.

I spent several evenings trying to get the trophy, like in the video on the standard bearers, but it was useless.
The method of shooting small infantrymen with breakable shields from a burning roof helped, they die from a couple of arrows from a hunting bow, the difficulty is low, the trophy was knocked out in a couple of minutes.

I did it in the place on the video. Nothing worked, I had to roll back the save. The save was at the stage when this village is peaceful. The quest that follows the plot is ideal for this trophy.
Quest "death of the kingdom". Vikings fight with the English. You are not touched much. Everyone has shields.
We climb on the burning house, press the skill "mark of death". One-shot of 4-5 shields is guaranteed. The trophy was made simply and in 1 second.

It is performed perfectly in Lincoln. There are two standard bearers at each gate to the city. I had a power of 108, recommended for location 160. The standard bearers do not have red skulls in the health bar, but only squares, but this is enough. The tactics are as follows: remove 2/3 of HP with normal attacks, then set yourself on fire in any way (I did it through a cart with hay. The burning counts when the gamepad vibrates) and carry out a special move "attack of the Valkyries". Three standard bearers, 5 minutes of time and your.

After a bunch of attempts, screams and riots, I want to say that the essence of this trophy is that it is not knocked out in one go. That is, if you kill 3 at once in the fire, with large unbreakable shields, then the trophy will not be counted. I upgraded it like this: I had a pumped skill to deflect arrows and spears, the moment before they flew in with the L1 button, I killed 3 people like this (one with a large shield and two with small ones), while I climbed onto a thatched roof and was constantly burning. Then I moved to a random point in Winchester, made a leap of faith, moved to a point below Hamptonshire and repeated the procedure. The trophy fell out

All the above methods do not work except one. I am writing on April 7, 2022, when I knocked out the trophy.
One and only real way. Reset the character's skills if already high level, pump up the character's skills ~285, maybe less, go to a village where there are shield bearers and thatched roofs, set the roof on fire and fight off enemies (it is not necessary to parry ranged attacks) you can kill enemies with arrows, the main thing is not to break shields (for example, shooting in the leg or in the head)) Elite enemies are those whose skull is red when aimed, and not those elite warriors with large shields.
I tried the above advice and spent 4-5 hours of my life on garbage.

Everything is much simpler, but depends on the level and equipment. As indicated in the video guide, reset all stats to 0, do not level up anything, climb onto the roof, set it on fire with a torch, and from a bow, at any enemy who has a shield behind his back, an arrow to the head. 3 shots - 3 hits and you do not need to bother with shield bearers, etc.

Caught a bug in the place where you need to take Arrows from the throne of the murdered king. A woman should come up to sell her arrows or keep them for yourself. She never showed up.

I did everything a little differently than described above. In Winchester (level 250, I was 198), along the perimeter of the fortress, in front of each arched entrance there are two guards with shields. They throw spears, opening up, and receive a pill accordingly, but periodically throw fire bombs. I expose myself to the bombs on purpose, and systematically destroy the enemy while burning. In one game period, I "destroyed" three. There are plenty of arrows in the towers above these arched gates. There are several of them along the entire perimeter of the fortress.

Got this trophy at power level 90 in Jorvikshire on the bridge where the guards are. I would like to give a few tips.
1. Move to the place indicated on the map:

2. Immediately kill the crossbowman, the shooter with a silent kill.
3. Leave three warriors with shields alive without breaking them. Can only be done with accurate archery.
4. Set yourself on fire on one of the braziers: It is important to bring yourself to the point of burning! (The scale fills up and the gamepad starts to vibrate)

5. Only after this do we kill the remaining warriors with a bow (without aiming at the shields).
6. If you run out of arrows, you can find them in the tower, where there is titanium on the table.
7. It is important that your level is very different from the level of the enemy (such enemies are highlighted with skulls)
