Unless you join someone else's game and use their shredder this achievement is going to take quite a bit of effort.
Shredders come in two sizes, medium and large. They both require 2 iron which is not available on Sylva (the starting planet) so you need to travel to either Novus or Glacio to mine some Hermatite (iron ore). The medium shredder costs 1000 bytes to unlock and is produced in a small printer, the large shredder costs 2000 bytes is produced in a medium printer and also requires some tungsten carbide. By the time you've gone to Novus you've probably already been to the moon (Desolo) so you should have plenty of tungsten available anyway.
Once you've constructed your shredder you can mount it on a platform at your base or a more practical solution it to fit it to a vehicle. It's much easier to shred scrap insitu that try to carry it all back to base. Shredders are fairly power hungry so fit your vehicle with some power generation and head out. Feed some scrap into your shredder and the achievement should unlock.
Connected to this there is a second achievement for shredding 50 scrap and another for exchanging some scrap at a trade platform. If you're planning on going for the 50 scrap achievement then ignore the medium shredder and go straight for the large. There is very little scrap that fits in the medium shredder.
