After each level you can see how many bricks you have destroyed in total. The total is cumulative and counts across all games.
If your aiming to finish the game (level 32) with each character you'll get this along the way.
If you aren't (because the game is pretty solid) then you can grind away on the early levels, trying to get other achieves or simply play Survival, letting the nuke blocks get down the bottom and setting them off. Also good for trying to get the x17 combo achieves.

If you are trying to beat the game with each character for the Ace Astropopper achievement, you will eventually come across this. All stats carry over between characters and games.. you can check how many bricks you've broken in your career after anylevel you complete.
