Self explanatory, Needs to use the shatter once your gauge is filled.
While managing your essence stone, try setting blue one (fervor related) as it will help filling the Metter up rapidly.
You'll get it eventually later on with better armor/defense and more resilient ennemies, so don't try to hard to get it during the first hours in the game

The best way to build Momentum is by not getting hit in between your strikes. Practice your evasive roll (
) to evade enemy strikes, but, more important, make sure you get parries down.
