You can kill a monster without a knife, but with a knife the monster takes greatly increased damage. When I made the pacifist trophy, my teammates devoured it in 4-5 moves. The monster simply restores a little HP every turn.

On a quest with book haters, I took money as a reward, so I thought that the trophy had been ruined. The second book can be taken from the safe in the same bookstore, there is a room on the side of the seller with a safe in it.
