How to unlock the Hothead achievement in Atomic Heart - Definitive Guide

The Makarov Pistol is abbreviated to "MP" in game for whatever reason. So ensure it's the MP gun your using to do the aimed headshots.

I found the best mobs to headshot were the white Vova engineers. Either freeze or electrocute them so they stand still - then with the Makarov Pistol aim down sight with cn_LT and put a few round into their heads to kill them.

Due to Atomic Heart having achievement tracking reset issues it's best to do all 25 in one sitting. The best way to do this is find a save point within a few yards of a Vova engineer. Save, then kill him with aimed headshots. Reload and kill him again. Rinse and repeat 25 times to unlock the achievement.

As of March 10, 2023 with update 1.3.5.0 on Xbox Series X, this is not tracking for me at all. I was locked at 36% before the update this morning and worked a good dozen (at least) in one run in the hospital basement against mutants. The tracker hasn't moved. Neither does the Railgun achievement. I zapped six in one shot. No pop.

After the big update tracking seems to be working except for apples.

A great place to get a load of headshots is the bridge. I equipped the thermal sight as it makes it much easier. Loads of sprouts, plus a couple of harder enemies.

I also did the vodka and take down the owl cheevos at the same time.

Patch 1.4.0.0 and it's still not tracking correctly. It was initially, but with successive reloads/saves it's stopped tracking again. Seems to be a remnant of the weird single-sitting achievement 'requirement'.

You need to use the PM, not the MP. The TA achievement description is wrong, in-game it says to use the PM.

Stuck on 96% how can they develop a game, but not count to 25?

As of 3/8/23, reloading doesn't work for me--loading a previous checkpoint or save reset the tracker just like closing the game out completely. To get the achievement, I had to get 25 headshot kills in one continuous run, no loading, etc. Hope this helps someone else.

EDIT: Unsure if you can still get this via reloading a checkpoint, so check the progress on the achievement if you attempt to do so. That said the latest patch says they fixed the single session issue, so you may be able to get this legit over multiple game sessions now.

Apparently this is glitched and you need to get 25 aimed headshots in a single sitting.

Luckily it's possible to get this by exploiting the checkpoint system.

Simply find a Vova near a checkpoint, Freeze/electrify them (may as well work on the Avatar achievement while doing this) Aim at their head and kill them.

Then just load your previous save and repeat.

I did this in the room with the locked door to the seed bank (you collect 3 moon samples or something for a lock)

Was the achievement tracking issue fixed with the recent patch or is it still broken?

confirmed still broken the tracking angry surprisingly, why the "platinum (all achievments)" achievement don't have a unobtainable flag?

That’s annoying, you’d think a 60gb update would cover these things. I enjoyed the first few hours of the game but I’m slightly put off playing if things like the test chambers or getting all the weapons isn’t going to track properly

Ok so this is one of the many bugged achievements. At the time of writing this (April 20, 2023), tracking works but it is still bugged.

I tried all of the other guides using Vovas to get headshot kills, but not all headshot kills were counting. In fact, very few counted. What I found to work were Spores. Killing Spores while zoomed in with the pistol counted almost every kill. I guess Spores are the heads of Mutants, so by themselves they are all head, making a headshot kill the only way to kill them. That's the only logic I can make of it but I still was aiming at the center point, not the petals. I did this after completing VDNH, in the open world map near Testing Ground 9. There are a bunch of Mothers spawning Spores there. The Mutants and the Spores both counted towards this achievement.

The best part is Spores continually spawn if you don't kill their Mother. Once I saw those kills tracking, I probably spent no more than one minute killing about 20 Spores (I had about 5 already tracked).

I hope this helps everyone else experiencing the same problems I was.

Tip: for the achievement to count, always hold the pistol while aiming after getting a headshot. If you stop holding LT right after getting a headshot, it won't count.

Pretty simple achievement, mostly aim for the simple Vova enemies, since they have the least amount of health.

You can turn on Aim Assist if needed.

The counter does not work very correctly. Enemies who don't see you don't count. Only if they attack you. I did it by restarting the CT scanner.

It's even simpler - you freeze Vovchik and three or four shots at point-blank range will be enough, the shot must be aimed.
As of 08.03, the trophy works correctly, it doesn’t count anyone except Vovchik.
It is important that the PM must have a standard receiver.

Completed the trophy on version 1.06. The trophy apparently counts not only the Vovchik and the plant chelik, but apparently also the queen, because the trophy was given for killing her.

The description of the trophy (as, indeed, many others) is crooked. You don’t just need to hit the head with precision from the PM - it must be the final shot, after which the robot will die. It’s convenient to do in “Vavilov” when you need to collect flasks with liquid - there is a moment with a pipe and a long jump down - there are 8 VOV boys there at once. After saving 3-4 times it gets knocked out.

At the moment, on version 1.003.200, it’s simply pointless to try to knock out the trophy.
I started doing it before the update, somehow filled the counter to 11, and decided to leave it for later. After the update, I deliberately tried to win the prize, but it didn’t work. I shot at both robots and zombies (shot with precision), the counter never moved.

On 03/16/23 PS4 the trophy does not work correctly. I made more than 40 heads on Vovchiki and the trophy did not fall. At Test Site No. 9 I shot “Matka” and “Kultysh” in the head, and immediately grabbed the trophy.

Kultysh are ordinary infected scientists with a flower instead of a head.

The easiest way to stuff is on the larvae that fly out of the queens. You stand next to her and stuff it.

Personally, I did it in the theater on ordinary shoots, just running around the uterus.

Escape kills count as headshots, so it's very easy to score on them.

Killing cows to the head also counts.

The trophy is very easy if you know where to do it. The trophy is cumulative, so as noted above, it can be done by restarting the CT. I did it in the Vavilov complex, there, after receiving the order to move to VDNKh, you will start to get out and there will be a place where you go down into the basement, where there are three hot boilers (and a couple of floors higher, you will go down from there, there is a rest room where you can do conservation), so near these boilers there are 5 or 6 “Vovchiks” that barely move and are excellent targets. A couple of overloads and a trophy in my pocket, I did it at Armageddon.

Targets that can’t see you also count, but as Arigulla noted, you don’t just need to hit, but kill. It took me two shots per robot.

PS: This method no longer works, probably the developers have corrected it and now it is impossible to fill the required amount by restarting the saved game. Although, alas, we didn’t get rid of the crookedness of our hands, since the counter can stop at any moment and you can’t move it, in my case it’s 11 and no matter how many Vovchiks I kill with a shot to the head after that, the counter doesn’t react, which means I get a trophy impossible
