How to unlock the Dark and Stormy Night achievement in Aven Colony - Definitive Guide
UPDATE: This appears to have been fixed as of 10/22/2018. This should unlock normally now without the previous workaround. Simply building lightning tower and letting 100 lightning strikes occur cumulatively over multiple maps will unlock this. I am leaving up my previous solution for a little bit longer just incase any issues emerge in the coming days, but all reports are that this has been resolved. Thanks everyone for your feedback, updates and reaching out to the developer to fix this!
I'm making this solution because I've now gotten multiple requests from other TA'ers who have had this achievement glitch on them. Based off the fact that only myself and a few others have unlocked this past a certain date, it would appear that a recent patch for Aven Colony has made this achievement unobtainable. I used the below steps to get this to unlock, and one other TA'er so far has used the same steps for them, I can't promise it will work but it has for me.
You will need a Disk version of this game in order to do this. You should also unlock every other achievement before trying this (you probably know what is coming.)
Step1: Completely delete all save data for Aven Colony on both your Xbox, and the cloud (permanent wipe, thats why I said unlock everything else first.)
Step2: Uninstall your game
Step3: Put your Xbox on OFFLINE mode.
Step4: Reinstall the game from the disc, with no online updates (thats why your xbox is offline)
Step5: Start the game, play either of the first 2 story missions (i preferred the 2nd mission). The missions are incredibly easy, and you're not really at risk of losing. So I just built some farms, built some mines/nano producers. And then built like 20 Lightning towers spread across the map. Let the game play out for a while at this point, feel free to count or to just guess when you've reached 100.
Step6: Go back to your network settings and reconnect to the internet, but DO NOT let the game update itself.
Step7: Now you should be able to recheck your progress (you cant check in offline mode).
Step8: At this point, if you were short of 100 lightning strikes, your progress tracker should have advanced pretty close. If you are short (remember dont update the game) just turn off your internet, and start grinding again. If your tracker is showing 100%, then I think it will unlock right there, or you might have to start the game updating. But at one of these points it unlocked for me. It might take 5 minutes.
Hopefully this helps everyone that has had this glitch on them. I sent the developers an email which they responded to very quickly, and I explained to them the issue, and they said they would log it. I would recommend other people if they feel so inclined to shoot them a support ticket too, so they feel more pressure to fix it.

Unfortunately I can confirm this is completely unobtainable in the digital version. I set up a sandbox game, covered the map in lightning rods (getting 4-6 strikes each winter) and ran for 55 sols (at least 30 of which at the aforementioned strike-rate) which would have taken me well over the 100 mark. The achievement did not unlock.

Just want to note that my solution is not meant to work for a digital version of the game. The achievement became unobtainable due to a patch the developer released for the game. The solution relies on utilizing a non-patched version of the game that you can only get with a disk version.

You will need to build a lightning tower. Right Trigger and select the shield icon. This is an automated structure that requires no workers. Lightning storms happen during Winter. The tower will absorb the lightning if it is within range of the strike. Once a 100 is reached the achievement will unlock. This is a cumulative achievement across all modes.

This seems to have glitched on me... My counter has been stuck at 28% for multiple maps now, and im on the 2nd to last mission. Curious if anyone else is seeing something like this.

Build Lightning Towers to protect your colony during the winter Sol seasons but the more towers you build, the more quicker this trophy will come. This will come naturally while completing the campaign and pursuing the Platinum.

Cumulative trophy. Build a battery, build lightning rods and catch lightning. For completing the story you will complete 100%.
