Note that you can tell if you have every item in an area by looking at the bottom left of the map screen while highlighting different areas. If you see a green checkmark next to the area name, you have every item in that area!

If you're trying to do all the collectibles without a guide, I would highly recommend marking your map by pressing  on any screens you think have an item, that way when you get the necessary upgrades you can revisit them and try to find what you missed!

Also you should prioritize getting the Diviner's Gem Item (23,14), as it's a little blue disc that lights up on your compass if a collectible is on the same screen as you!
