So, in order to get 12,000 points with a multiplier of 1, DON'T MATCH MORE THAN 5 PIECES.
3 pieces match = 90 points
4 pieces match = 160 points
5 pieces match = 250 points
Keep doing 3-5 pieces matches, and you should get it easily. If you create a multiplier by mistake, restart the challenge or simply ignore the "bonus piece".
I got it in my first attempt.
Doing matches of 3 and 4 pieces won't cut it. 5 is the minimum you should go for and hopefully you can do a few 10 plus matches without hitting any multiplier.
Took me about a dozen tries and got to 13,090 points with a very good run.

As noted in the description, this achievement can only be obtained in the Time challenge mode. The most difficult part about this achievement is avoiding tiles that will increase your multiplier so you can stay at 1 throughout the session. Every time you make a match of 6 or more tiles, at least one tile will get electrocuted and this will put a gold ring around the tile. Using a gold ring tile increases your multiplier by 1, so you must avoid the gold ring tiles at all costs. Getting a score of 12,000 isn't very difficult and may take you 1-3 tries depending on how quick you are or if you accidentally increase your multiplier. Once I knew what I was doing, I was able to get just over 13,000 points on my second attempt. Just make sure you make long chains as this will give you a higher score, even though it will put more gold ring tiles on the board.
