How to unlock the Act 1 Veteran achievement in Back 4 Blood - Definitive Guide
Alright ladies and Gents! As you all know, there is no way to account for the Corruption cards so know that there is quite a bit of luck involved in clearing these maps.
The most important thing you need, is a GOOD DECK, if you don’t have the cards, you will not survive. I personally set my deck up for a CQC/ Melee class, with the majority of my cards buffing both stamina, melee damage, and temporary health buffs. The primary cards I had included battle lust (2 health per melee), face your fears (3 temp health for kills within 2 meters), meth head ( + 40 stamina and melee), mandatory pt ( + 15 stamina for team) superior cardio/ cross trainers ( + move speed, stamina, health, stamina regen), berserker ( +10 melee, +10 melee speed, +move speed).
It’s also important to note that I was using Evangelo/Holly with this set up as the both have additional buffs that boost melee.
Additional cards to consider will be your team buffs including avenge the fallen, marked for death, second chance, ammo for all, etc. have some fun and customize to your playstyle!
Now, in regards to completing the act. A few things to note, YOU MUST PERSONALLY SURVIVE EACH MAP ATLEAST ONCE. When I cleared act 1, I had all the checkpoints for act 1, and had access to act 2, however my achievement didn’t pop. After trial and error, I realized I never survived the finale on bar room blitz. After completing the finale alive, my achievement popped immediately. My advice is to refrain from progressing through checkpoints until you can confirm you have successfully passed the map alive.
Currently, these achievements will not pop in single player, BUT they will pop for playing an online match with a team of bots. I noticed especially in act 1, players would typically always drop out after losing a continue. The AI for this game isn’t stellar, BUT they stick together, much like most gamers don’t understand in public matches. Personally, I found veteran to be far easier playing with AI and exercised this option every chance I had.
This is not an exhaustive list by any means, just what worked for me! Good luck everybody!

On veteran and Nightmare checkpoints are awarded at certain intervals. Yoy do have 1 continue to use if you fail, but if you are out of continues, you have to start from your last checkpoint. On veteran, Abandoned is the final checkpoint for the chapter.
It can be an aggrivating system, but it is what it is. I recommend lots of pipe bombs for that level, everyone in your team should have one.
When my group beat it Iwas a melee build, and was in charge of loading the rounds in the gun. This was because, we always tossed a pipe bomb as I was loading a new round, this is the part that takes the longest, and where you are most vulnerable. With most common rushing after the pipe bomb, I wasn't as useful at dealing with rhe mutations as the sniper on my team. Thus, we felt I was the perfect candidate for the rounds. Plus I was tanky and strong enough to fight off any common that got by the pipe bomb.
While you are loading a new round someone else can grab you rhe next bullet to use, and they can drop it down for you. I want to say it despawns after 30 secinds or so, so pick it up quickly after you clear the spent shell.
Have a sniper build dealing with special infected, there wont be a ton of common if you brought enough pipe bombs. Another player should be watching your back while you load rounds, if a couple common get you, you can go down fast.
The ogre comes after the fourth shot. If you are quick enough you can kill it with the 5th shot. There are also some mine shafts that open up periodically, just like the previous level, there should be propane tanks around you can set by them, your team needs to be johnny on the spot, and blow the mine once it opens, to keep common to a minimum. Its not a horrible finale with the right strategy.
Obviously your group composition, and ultimately RNGeesus shining his light on you will play a part in winning, but hopefully that all helps.

I'm surprised how easy this is I thought I'd be struggling (only played half of act 1 in veteran from saying this) but I don't even wish to think of nightmare if I'm honest but I'll cross that path when I reach it.

See the Trophy for Act 1 Cleaner for an offline strategy/tips.
Completing Nightmare will also unlock this trophy, however i would strongly recommend playing through the game on each difficulty to unlock more cards, and learn the maps to develop your own strategy on how to tackle certain situations.
