To initiate the Balan’s bout, you need to find the gold hat in each level. You’ll go into a fight sequence where you have to match the shadows and press A to get an excellent grade.
You need to get all Excellents in the fight sequence to get the gold statue. I would aim to get them out of the way as fast as you can because you need the gold statues to progress with the story.
Ultimately you’ll get this achievement going for all the gold statues in the mop up, so it can’t be missed.

This trophy goes hand in hand with obtaining all gold Balan statues because getting an Excellent rating in Balan's Bout will reward you with a statue. In order to obtain a rank of Excellent in Balan's Bout, you must get an "Excellent" rating on every QTE of the sequence which is the best rating. If you are having trouble with these, I recommend finding a small focal point to watch for the outline to line up with. Look for something like a finger or the tip of his foot to focus on so the moment you see it align, you can hit the button quickly. If you do happen to mess up and do not want to beat the boss to reset the chapter for another attempt, you can quit the application and restart it so that the hat will still be there when you re-enter the level. Just keep in mind that you will also reset anything you've collected such as costumes or statues if you did not save beforehand.
