How to unlock the Dig for Victory achievement in Baldur's Gate 3 - Definitive Guide

While exploring your party will sometimes perform a random Survival check. When the check passes, a mound of dirt will highlight in the area. If you have a shovel in your inventory, dig up the dirt and a treasure chest will appear for you to loot. Have this occur five times for the trophy. There are many of these found throughout the world, you'll likely stumble across more than five in the first act alone.

Worth noting where you can get a shovel, I think. I came across the mounds of dirt before I had a shovel. The first one I found was in the Druid grove (Emerald Grove?) from a halfling merchant named Arron.

You would have to find five buried chest. I personally wait until I passed the perception checks and dig up the dirt and in my opinion it’s easier to find that way.

This should be relatively simple, although I would imagine your choice of character and other party members can make quite a difference.

The way it has worked for me is that after finishing the tutorial on the Nautilus you find yourself running around a couple of areas with lots of sand and dirt paths.
Occasionally the pop up for passing or failing a Perception or Survival check will appear and if you pass it you will see a little mound appear on the ground which you can dig a chest out of. I needed a shovel in order to dig, although it's possible some characters may not. I found a shovel inside the Abandoned Ruins, which is a minor dungeon very close to where you start by the crashed Nautilus, but you can get them from many places early on including traders in the Emerald Grove, which is pretty much guaranteed to be the first settlement you arrive at.

Even if you fail the check, it's still possible to use the shovel from your inventory to just randomly dig around in an area, so if you see a whole lot of failed checks popping up it might be worth having a dig.

There seem to be enough buried chests that you should get this fairly early on in the game if you're looking out for them. I got my 5th while running around the outside of the Blighted Village. I can't remember where all of my chests were located (and I'm not actually sure whether or not they appear in the same places in everybody's game) but I found one in a corner of the balcony spot directly above the door to the Ancient Ruins, another in front of a small rock formation directly South of the South gate into the Blighted Village and another on a cliff edge West of the West entrance to the Blighted Village.

Characters with high survival will find piles of earth in the open world that can be dug up with a shovel, dig up 5 of these chests and you're done. You don’t have to download it yourself; basic teammates find everything they need from the very beginning of the game.
You can buy a shovel, for example, in the first settlement with tieflings and druids.
