How to unlock the Spider Tamer achievement in Band of Bugs - Definitive Guide

Personally I disagree with Shifting Web being the way to go. Do what everyone says Private match 30 mins, 30 points, Fire Mage, however I did it on Mountainside Pests. It should start you in a corner and only one type of spider that spawns on this map and the water bugs will actually try to get to that corner.

I actually got this in less than 4 mins because after one water bug none of the spiders would move so it was literally just me waiting every turn until I hit 30 points. Be warned this is very boring since it is just waiting every single turn. The one water bug that did come after me I did the stone throw and that was the only thing I had to actually do.

Apparently this can happen in Shifting Web but I did that map for 8 out of my 10 hosting games (before trying Mountainside Pests) and it didn't put me in a safe spot a single time. This game isn't overly hard so not being in a safe zone is not needed to get the 30 points but it makes it MUCH faster.

So if you are like me and Shifting Web is not working here is a plan B

This is the best method. Messing around on Shifting Web, I noticed the map is a bit small, so if you constantly get water bugs, they can hit you and make this take longer.

Picking Mountainside Pests solves the problem because the map is big enough that it'll take them two turns to get to you and you can kill them before they get there. Not to mention there is only 3 enemies on the map, so getting just the spider/centipedes is quicker. Staying at either far corner will stop them from coming after you.

Honestly the best way, +1 from me.

This method is best as it only took me 2 min to do. the others took ages and my score went down when I died, sucks. +1 vote

This was great. Took me 2 minutes, too, and I never had to do anything but wait.

To obtain this achievement start a private 30 minute game of Spider Hunt on Shifting Web and set the maximum score to 30.

When the match begins choose fire mage.

The goal here is to get to a point where there are only spiders and small centipedes on the map, as they will not move if you stand in certain space. SO DO NOT ATTACK SMALL CENTIPEDES OR SPIDERS. Since you get 1 point for every turn you wait, you will have no opposition to get to 30 points once the map is full of spiders and centipedes that do not move

The strategy is simple. Move to one of the special spaces where the spiders and small centipedes do not recognize you, and use either fire ball or stone throw to kill the mosquitoes and water striders until a spider or small centipede spawns in their place.

From your starting position on shifting web, if you move to the right two spaces and down one space into the space that has a lower height, spiders and centipedes will not follow or attack you.

Using the same camera angle, if and when you die and respawn on the right side of the map go as far right and north onto the two elevated spaces. Spiders and centipedes will not follow or attack you if you are on the space most north and right.

If you happen to die and respawn on the left side of the map just move to the far left to the two equally highly elevated spaces and stand on the northern most one. Again, spiders and centipedes will not attack you there.

Continue to only attack mosquitoes and water striders (water striders first since they do 15 points of damage as opposed to the 6 from mosquitoes) from those spaces and once the map has only spiders / small centipedes just wait until you have 30 points.

You actually want to move from the lower spot to the higher spot directly behind where you spawn at the start of the game.

Should you get killed by Striders/Mosquitos always move to the highest points on the map. Those are where the Spiders and Centipedes cannot reach you.

Set up a private multiplayer match with the following settings:

Spider Hunter / 30 minutes / 30 points / Shifting Web

If you die right away, you'll spawn at a point where nothing will be able to get to you.

Use a Fire Mage to kill the water-gliding bugs and the flying bugs in one hit.

If you're having trouble finding the 'safe' spots, another easy way to do this is to have the player getting the achievement as a fire mage, and a 2nd player as a healer.

Fire mage can stay exactly where he spawns at the start of the game.

The healer moves near the enemies and lures them away from the fire mage, letting him kill them from a distance and rack up lots of points easily, as it doesn't matter how many times the healer dies.

If any enemies hurt the fire mage, the healer can than cast heal to fix any damage.

In order to get this achievement quickly, set up a private multiplayer match:
Spider Hunter, 30 minutes, 30 points, Shifting Web.
Die immediately and you'll respawn to a place where spiders and centipedes can't reach you.

Choose the Fire Mage and use your powerful spells to kill the water-gliding bugs and the flying bugs in one hit. Survive long enough and you'll get 30 points.
