How to unlock the Gold Revenge achievement in Batman Arkham City - Definitive Guide

Alrighty, so if you, like me, have problems with the Predator challenges, here are some videos to help you along. I take no credit for these, all of it belongs to PowerPyx. As of 10/25/11 all Predator challenge videos are up.
Some of these are kind of hard to follow step by step, so these should be used as a guide for various ways to earn the medals, not exact duplicates. Although, I'm sure you could try an exact following of these guides, I'm just not sure it would work really well.

No. Usually, they are random trophies you can get. I have less that 200, but once I beat the game, every other trophy was a challenge map. Possible it glitched, which ones are you missing?

How true, however I did manage to find one very interesting piece of info online bout completing top of the world extreme. If you go into the vent and pop out inside the building you can go straight to the top of the elevator shaft, so you dont have to worry bout booby trapped vantage points and also thats a great place to start things out.

This guy has unlimited smoke pellets, I only get to use one. The videos where he repeatedly uses smoke pellets are useless.

How does he use multiple smoke pellets? I can only throw one and it wont recharge.

Yeah I had that pointed out to me by a friend that watched these. I would say that it's b/c its a playstation version. I haven't figured out any way to do that on xbox. So no, you cannot follow these exact, but he does show some good ways to start em off. Hopefully, if I can find some 360 specific videos I will post them instead soon.

Yeah man that last map got me so mad because I could only use one. I think it might be because he's playing on easy. Either way thanks for the links to these vids positive vote for me.

He is definitely playing on easy. It's confirmed online that its the only way to get multiple smoke pellets. This achievement is still doable though.

Thanks for the confirmation. Personally, I used the video for the medals that are difficult to get that he normally gets right away.

@JOHNZAHZD That sounds glitched. It's the trophies which unlock the challenge maps, and if you have all 400 I can't imagine that you wouldn't have all the challenge maps.

Thanks for the videos. I tried not to follow any of them to the letter, but they were great for figuring out where to start on a few of these. Not looking forward to doing Top of the World (Extreme) again in any form for the Campaign Challenges... not as Batman, and certainly not as Catwoman or Robin. Frustrating (but fortunately, none of these are as endlessly frustrating as the Shock and Awe maps on Arkham Asylum).

Some tactics I found to rack up tons of points in the combat challenges.

1. In the rounds that pit you against armored thugs, focus on them immediately. Stun them, then go in for the beat down. You won't be able to pull off the full combo before someone attacks you, so be on your guard and counter. As soon as your counter is done, go back to the beatdown before his daze wears off. By the time he is knocked out, you'll have a combo of over 15.
2. Some of the maps will have you fighting those big dudes with one arm and a weapon. Focus on them in the beginning and punch them. Watch out for counters, and when the big dudes go to swing at you just jump over them. Combos of around 30 can be achieved by the time these guys die and you'll have a whole room full of dudes left to fight. XanthicAntimony adds that you can freeze the one armed guys by using RT+RT.
3. When you have a Titan in a round, wait for him to charge you, then ultra stun him and get on his back while keeping your eyes out for counters. When you're on him, try to group the enemies up, then use the titan shockwave (press B). Nets you Combo Multiplier X 10 X 12 for each guy it hits. Pretty awesome move. When he throws you off, immediately press one of the combo buttons (I usually just do Y+B).

Good tactics, but I would add in for people that can't handle the one armed guys that freezing them with the ice grenade (RT+RT once unlocked) can be useful to perpetually keep him immobile while allowing you to build up your combo to have a large multiplier when you take him down. Also, just mentioning that the batarang trick for the titans from Arkham Asylum does not seem to work in this game. Would give thumbs up, but I cant. lol.

Thanks for the tips! @XanthicAntimony I agree, the dodge keeps my combos alive to x78 most times

I usually start the combat challenges by using all 5 gadgets to get the 2000 point bonus for using all 5. You can then take out all the thugs with a normal combo chain. If you time everything right, you shouldn't take any damage in the process, either.
1. Immediately using the quickfire batarang (LT) then quickfire grenade (RT, RT)
2. Quickfire batclaw (LT + Y) the closest henchman
3. At this point, you are probably about to be punched by at least one henchman - counter if necessary, then quickfire explosive gel (LT + X) and quickly detonate (LT + X), as there should be a large group in the area.
4. Finish up with a quickfire REC (LT + B), preferably on an armored thug, to send him flying.
5. Proceed with the pummeling of the remaining henchmen.

This is an easy 2000 per round, and 8000 total for an entire challenge can make a huge difference!

For the one-armed guys, the tactic that worked best for me is this:
1. Run up to him first and ignore the crowd around him.
2. Mash the x button until your combo meter reaches five and glows yellow.
3. Use bat swarm (a+x) to stun him and the guys around him.
4. Mash x again. Your combo meter should glow before anyone recovers.
5. Bat swarm again. Repeat until he goes down.
This results in me having a huge combo multiplier by the time he goes down and medals are cake after that.

One thing I would add for points, is that Beat Downs are 50pts times your multiplier. I start out using the gadgets for that quick 2k pts. I then go into strike + evade for a good long while till the number of enemies is more managable. Then I switch to Stun + Beat Down + Counter when necessary. I've been able to rack up a combo count of 85 using that method in Funhouse Brawl Extreme.

For a lot of points use the bat swarm when your combo is high. When at x30 and you use it you get a couple thousand every time, then punch 2-3 people and do it all over again and again. Doing this nets me a couple ten thousand when I do it.

Also just wanted to point out a few possible ways your combo can end:
If you dive to get away from a titan, he can still hit you, but if you jump over someones head to land behind them, so I believe you cannot be hit
Also if you're going for a variable combo (using the most moves) beware of the ariel attack as enemies can hit you right in the middle of it and there isn't a whole lot you can do about it.
Also, using the dodge (A+A) move is key, but if you find yourself not being able to react in time after, do a combo batarang (LT) or two to keep the combo alive.
I was going to add this into my guide, but it seems only fair to put it in yours since you had a combat guide up first.

The Powerpyx guides for the predator challenges are pretty much the best anywhere. So I'm not going to talk about that.
There are a couple of things to make sure about the combat challenges though

-Evade, Critical Strike That is your mantra to mastering all combat challenges.

- Doing all your quickfire gadget moves will add 2000 points per round. However if you're very good with the critical striking and hardly ever make mistakes its best to avoid doing your gadget moves as it might be hard for some people to incorporate them in with the combo.

-Don't even bother countering; if you evade after every strike and only critical strike it will add more points to your combo.

-ALWAYS start out against the easy opponents build up your combo and then use the (Y+B) combo move to take out armored henchmen.

-A different tactic should be used when taking down the henchmen with stun batons or shields - Once you build up your combo use the disarm and destroy move (Y+X) on them to permanently get rid of the weapon they were using. This will give you more opportunites to critical strike them which will give you more points at the end of the round or challenge.

-The case with titans is that you should go after them first. (B+B+B) ultra stun them then mash (X) to eventually get on their backs. If you see someone trying to hit you just evade and get to work on him again. Once you're on top of him the world id your oyster you'll get points like crazy.

-With lieutenants (one-armed-men) start striking them first when someone comes to hit you or the lieutenant starts to strike just evade and continue striking. If done correctly should build up your combo to at least x40 or x45. Then work on the rest.

-Now when there aren't any special henchmen left - no one with stun batons or shields or armored or lieutenants or titans. After every three critical strikes do a Bat Swarm - It does hardly any damage and gives you a lot of points so you can strike more and get more overall points.

If you follow everything I said you'll get more than double or triple the points needed to gold medal the challenge.

This was very helpful, especially for the combat maps with the 60,000 point thresholds.

i have to respectfully disagree with you on the armored henchmen. theyre an amazing points boost. go for them first and build up your combo. once you can, disarm and destroy any cattle prods and if u want, also shields. those are the most harmful against your combo because if u accidentally hit either one, your combo will be gone. i didnt really worry about the knives because the only disadvantage they have is they cant be countered but it shows pretty early when thy go for you. just evade them.
contrary to what u say, i like to go for the tough guys first to build up my combo. as soon as any weapon or special enemies have been taken care of, i kept focusing on one enemy at a time. heres what u do - stun them and then go for that stun takedown. youll usually add about 10x to your counter for each guy. whenever someone tries to have a go at you, counter asap, then go back to defacing the guy you had stunned. once you have that 12x special ability, which makes your reaction lots better, you will definitely not have any problems countering even multiple enemies.
when youre down to 4 or 5 guys, basically whenever you feel confident about ground takedowns, ultra stun one or two and try to separate them all a little bit and go for ground takedowns. the reason is, going for ground takedowns with a counter of, say, 60 will give you a tremendous points boost.

Just another tip for levels with Titans in them, just keep jumping over people and punch them over and over. Store up your combo move in till you see the Titan charge. The second you see him coming use your combo move (y+b) or (x+y). He will not be able to stop the move and he will just run through you. This is a great way to keep your combo going. I had a hard time going after the Titan first and keeping a combo. I would just get hit, so I figured this out, out of frustration.

For combat challenges, there's only a couple things to know:

Evade, Hit, Evade, Hit, etc...do that to keep your combo up. The priority is to not get hit, so your combo keeps getting higher and higher.

Next, every time you get a combo stored up, do the bat swarm thing using cn_A+cn_X. It will give you a ton a points. As you keep your combo going, you'll start getting thousands of points every time you do it. Also, the more guys it hits the better.

That's all you have to do. Hit, Evade, and Bat Swarm. I usually got all three medals by the middle of the third round. This also works for Catwoman, Robin, etc using their comparable move.

One small thing about the predator challenges, I'm not sure if it has already been mentioned. If you're having trouble with the ones wear you have to leave the henchman with the Jammer backpack till last, remember that you can always shoot with the REC to temporarily disable it to see how many enemies you have left or to plan your attack.

With regards to the gadget bonus, I found that at the start of every combat mission I used the quick Batclaw, then quick electric charge, then chuck a freeze bomb, then a batarang, and the jump into the crowd and do a quick explosive gel.

This will get you the 2000 bonus for using all 5 gadgets, and because you do it at the start of the fight it doesn't interfere with your combo.

Just in case on Natural Selection (Extreme) you are having trouble with the Boom Box Medal you have to make sure that you denoate the gel before the guy grabs the gun when he walks up to the crate. Credit to @Jbonnet85 on the xbox live forums.

Since I really only had most of the trouble with perfecting the Combat Maps, this solution will focus entirely on them: I found it best to not use any combos, and just Strike, Counter, Evade, Stun, Aerial Attack, Beatdowns, etc. Of course, always remember it's good to start off a fight in the combat challenges with a Batclaw Slam (LT+Y+X). Ground takedowns are good to finish off a fight when you have your combo up, as it will score you a ton of points (An Ultra-stun, B+B+B, will knock an enemy to the ground, ready for the takedown. It does not work on enemies carrying a riot shield, so it will kill your combo if you try to ultra stun them). Another tip, as I've been watching PowerPyx's Arkham City videos for tips on the Campaigns and Challenge Maps (The videos XanthicAntimony posted are his), is that a special combo takedown (B+Y or Y+B), will make you temporarily invulnerable while performing them. Hope this helps.

For this trophy, you must get three ranked medals for every one of the default Combat and Predator maps. There are 24 maps total, 12 each for Combat and Predator. The six extra content maps do not count for this trophy.

Combat maps are far easier than in Arkham Asylum by virtue of the point totals being more generous. High combo counters are key in this, as are variations in the amount of moves and gadgets used in the combos. The bat swarm combo (+) is an excellent tool to shrug off incoming hits and keeping the combo counter high. You’ll need at least a 5x combo to use it, and you can use it every 5 hits in a combo. Use it well.

Doing a Ground Pound (+) will net you 75 points times the multiplier. You can exploit this toward the end of a round by using the Ultimate Stun (, , ), which will down the stunned enemy for an extended period of time. Use the Ultimate Stun on several enemies to down all of them, then Ground Pound them individually to net a ton of points.

Finally, in maps with rideable Titan henchmen, while riding them, you can mash to splash damage on a lot of enemies, which will build the multiplier as well as net a ton of points. I got over 80 000 points in one round alone from doing this.

Predator maps on the other hand are more difficult than the last game. The enemies are smarter, see better and are more plentiful. Patience is imperative as per last time, but watching videos on the maps, such as those by PowerPyx may help you greatly.

PowerPyx has developed an excellent challenge maps guide, which can be seen here. That page features video examples of each of the maps, plus lists of tips.

Perform well enough to unlock the Gold medal on all 24 Arkham City ranked maps as Batman. To unlock these maps, you will have to collect Riddler trophies during the main game. See "Genius" for more info on those.

There are twelve Combat challenges which are fairly easy. Focus more on keeping your flow going than throwing in a lot of variation. You're more likely to make a mistake trying to throw an explosive gel down than just using attacks, dodges and counters. When the titans show up, jump over them to confuse them for a few seconds. Against either of the twins, continually beat them and use Bat Swarm whenever possible to keep the other goons off you. You'll get your combo extremely high by the time they die and rack up the points.

The twelve Predator challenges are slightly more difficult. You'll have to perform three specific tasks in each map, all during the same attempt. Press  at any time to view their requirements. Not too many tips I can give for these, the videos in the link below do better justice than words can.

Click here for a complete video guide to these challenges.

Note: Because he was playing on Easy difficulty, PowerPyx had the ability to recharge his smoke pellets. If you're playing on a harder difficulty, you'll need to slightly alter your play style compared to what he does in some situations.
