How to unlock the Blunt Trauma achievement in Batman: Arkham Knight - Definitive Guide

1. Standard, from behind (Suggest doing the silent AND smash takedown just in case)

2. Popping out of a vent tunnel
(the underground tunnels that can be entered while standing on them)

3. Swinging down from a ledge above (was able to achieve this from a wire walk, had trouble doing this from a ledge cause the enemy needed to be underneath of you a good bit)

4. Jumping down from a ledge above (with an enemy on a level below you it should give you the option)

5. Smashing through a ceiling/glass
(with an enemy directly below you while you stand on the glass ceiling the takedown option should appear)

6. Inverted takedown from a perch (with an enemy directly below you while sitting on a perch the takedown option should appear)

7. Ceiling grate takedown from below (while the enemy is standing on or near the door in the ceiling you are under the takedown option should appear)

8. Ceiling grate takedown from above
(same as number 7 on the list but you need to be above the grate door in the floor and the enemy below you and the option to takedown should appear)

9. Ledge takedown (while hanging off the side of a building/walkway with an enemy nearby the takedown option should appear)

10. Corner takedown (must take cover but crouching with cn_RT and then pressing cn_A on a corner for the takedown option to appear)

11. Takedown through a weak wall (Suggest doing the stone wall takedown with explosive gel while an enemy is on the other side of the wall AND a wooden wall takedown when the option appears with an enemy on the other side of the wall AND a glass window takedown when an unaware enemy is on the other side of the window [thanks for this one Phoenix0689])

12. Grapnel Boost Takedown (with a guy near a ledge use the grapnel hook to head up toward the ledge and while in the air it should give the option to do the takedown if it is possible)

13. Line Launcher Takedown
(must be sliding along the zip line, NOT sitting on the zip line. As you approach an unaware enemy the option should appear once he gets in range to be taken down)

14. Environment Takedown (Can be found as blue items while near them and if an enemy stands near them and can be taken down they will be highlighted in blue and you can then to the takedown with cn_A+cn_X)

15. Takedown through vent cover (when you are in the vents that you have to crouch walk into and send you into first person mode, you get the option to takedown an opponent just outside an exit that is still covered while an enemy is on the otherside) (added this to main list as a few people have stated that the achievement popped for them once doing this takedown, so thanks to those people for the input)

Bonus Takedowns! (These were not listed under my guide as needed for the achievement but it never hurts to try these takedowns if the above takedowns do not pop the achievement)

B1. Ice Smash Takedown
(You need to freeze an unaware enemy with the freeze grenade and then when you are beside him the ice smash takedown option should show up, if you are in conflict this option doesn't appear) (another side note for this is that you can find the ice grenade in the theater after about 80% progression through the main story, they are on a table beside the farthest left holding cell as you enter the theater and are a missable pickup that is required for some of the riddler trophies)

B2. Ground Takedown (knock an enemy down by any means whether that be by batarang, sliding into them, or just punching them to the ground, and while you stand over them the option should appear as cn_RT+cn_Y)

I can confirm that these count if you do them in either story, new game +, AR Challenges, or a mixture there of. Many should come across natural gameplay and seizing the moment during the campaign playthrough.

Many of the required takedowns that are left over can be done on the challenge map "Under the Pale Moonlight" (which is being reported as glitchy to unlock so it may not be an option for you to play in the AR Challenges) there are plenty of enemies to bleed through without the need to keep restarting the challenge. The best tactic to get thugs into the places you want them to be is to use the Voice Synthesizer and just direct them to a position of your liking. Just realize that it can only be used a few times before you get caught onto and it is useless the rest of the predator scenario.

I can't seem to find a covered vent on any of the challenge maps so I can do a vent takedown. Anyone else find one or is that in the story only?

My achievement popped after getting the takedown, not the end of the challenge...so I would assume you can leave after doing the takedowns you wanted to do

Its not a glitch if its the one im thinking of. When you load up the story and see the AR challenges (left on the d-pad) you will see it locked and if it is the one I'm thinking of then you need to environmental takedown a brute to unlock it

No I have it there, just written differently than that

I wrote this from the e guide I got for free and it said exactly this:

"popping down through a grate above" same as a ceiling grate takedown

By The lMlan on 29 Jun 2015 14:51
Other people are reporting that it's neccessary to do a ceiling grate takedown where Batman is below the grate and an enemy is walking on the grate too. A lot of people have reported this being the one they were missing. Sorry if this is in your guide too, but I couldn't tell if it was just phrased differently (obviously there are vent "tunnel" grate tackdowns, grates in the floor takedowns, ceiling grates from above takedowns and ceiling grate from below takedowns, so it can get confusing lol)

Keep checking back hoping someone has had luck with the missing challenge glitch =/

@Even Flow 406, I know your feeling. I had to go through the list again until it popped. I got mine on the line launcher takedown when I went through again. Which I knew I had done before cause that one is one of the takedowns you basically have to try for cause using the line launcher isn't exactly the go to thing in predator situations

You might want to add a takedown from behind a window? I just got mine to pop after taking a guy down through a window from behind cover. (I've probably done that a hundred times before but it worked this time)

After attempting this achievement 3 times, it finally popped (after a line launcher takedown, which i had done at least 5 times before.) What worked for me was doing all of the takedowns on the AR challenge map "Predator Fundamentals." You can do all takedowns on this map except for a ceiling takedown and a swing down takedown. Make sure you wait for it to finish saving before replaying the map. Good Luck :)

I started a new save file and rushed through the beginning story. Achievement popped like it was nothing during the Predator encounter outside the Clocktower. Just letting people know that if you are sure you have completed the list multiple times you may need a new file.

Its important to note that if you're doing the takedowns in predator challenges you should access the challenges through story mode (not the main menu). After you take out all the enemies you should continue back to the open world--don't hit retry. This is to make sure your progress is being saved properly.

I was doing it through the AR challenges shown on the main menu. After I saw the PS4 video guide by PowerPyx, I tried it in story mode and it finally popped when I was about halfway through the list.

I just got the achievement with B2: Takedown through vent cover, so it may not be a bonus. I also never did the ice smash for B1. As mentioned above, when doing Predator Fundamentals, it has to be done through the world map and not the main menu, otherwise it won't count.

I'm shocked by how buggy this achievement is. I went to 'Predator Fundamentals' and just started running through the list - it popped after a ledge takedown, which I'd done a number of times before. Well, at least it's done now.

This achievement does seem really buggy - I'd run through the list a few times and then just started doing whatever ones I felt like and it eventually popped. Would be good to have some sort of in game tracker for achievements like this.
If you're having trouble, just keep doing different take downs, it'll pop eventually.

This unlocked for me after I completed a wall vent takedown, so I'm pretty sure the bonus takedowns are a requirement. I know that was the first time I had completed one, and was able to do so on the airship (the section with the minigunners and where Stagg is thrown in a cell)

Note: for me the "missing" one was the corner takedown. I know I did it several times before (as per the usual story around here), so I was surprised when it triggered on it. Anyway, don't forget to do the corner takedown a few times if you're having problems.

Also, make sure the screen says "Corner Takedown" vice "Takedown" when you perform it. I've seen both onscreen, which may have been my problem...

So I'm not sure which ones I'm missing. I've done all of them except the Line Launcher Takedown but I can't be sure. Does anyone know a good place to use the Line Launcher? I couldn't do it without being seen on Terminal Velocity or Under The Pale Moonlight and Predator Fundamentals doesn't have a space for it.

I'm rather confused about something. Your solution mentions the challenge map "Under the Pale Moonlight", I've 100%'d the game and yet I don't have that map. I looked online and it exists, but the only Predator challenges I have are "Smash and Grab", "Terminal Velocity" and "Revive and Shine". I don't have any maps waiting for me to do something to unlock them either. Is Under the Pale Moonlight dlc of some kind? Or has my game glitched on me somehow (there are gaps in the in game challenge map redial, and I swear I remember some being there requiring me to unlock one by using 4 gadgets during a glide attack but that isn't there anymore).

Right on Wacky Wookiee :)

And since I mentioned it in a comment above and at least one person here has had the same problem glitch that causes Under the Pale Moonlight (and the last racing AR challenge) not to be unlockable, I just finished my New Game + playthrough tonight and I can confirm that they will pop up for you to unlock them during New Game + (you have to use 3 quickfire gadgets in one glide attack and lure an enemy into a takedown using the voice modulator). They pop up as soon as the cutscene where
ends.

@Lyco499

You are absolutely right. The ceiling grate takedown is actually 2 kinds of different takedowns, the above takedown (falling through a grate and smashing a thug one level below) and a below takedown (where you grapnel up through a grate to takedown a henchmen).

@theman0893

"popping down through a grate above" just sounds confusing... you should rephrase that to "popping UP through a grate with your grapnel gun ( for a takedown)".

There will be a prompt when a henchmen is standing on top of a walkway with a grate... you just press the cn_Y button underneath the walkway the henchmen is standing on for the takedown. Funny thing is, it actually says ceiling grate takedown before you press cn_Y.

P.S. I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all, I'm just trying to help. +1 positive vote from me.

@theman0893, no, it is a glitch. The AR challenge just isn't there, locked or otherwise (I'm also missing the last race). I've seen a few people online mentioning they've had the same glitch. I'm currently running through New Game + and hoping that I'll get the chance to unlock the challenges I'm missing. If not, looks like I'm gonna have to start a game in a new save slot and run through the entire game again just so I can get the 69 stars in AR challenges achievement -_-

I finally managed this achievement during New Game +, despite knowing I've done every single requirement more than once it just wouldn't pop for me. It finally did after a ledge takedown (where you're hanging onto the ledge underneath an enemy and kind of strangle them against it) which I know I've done more than once before.

I just wanted to highlight Ryland04 comment in the above solution which helped me get this much easier.

"After attempting this achievement 3 times, it finally popped (after a line launcher takedown, which i had done at least 5 times before.) So do this method first and get everything you can. It's really easy as there are only three enemies on the map. After that select a different Predator Challenge for the one or two you're missing. Just an FYI, the Predator Fundamentals challenge is one of the first VR tutorials that you get near the beginning of the game. It isn't listed under the Predator Challenges.

Mine unlocked when I did the Grapnel Boost takedown. But like I said, do as much as you can on this map as it's really easy. If you cant figure out how to do some (or flat out can't), then go to the other maps.

The key point here is that if you are going for these take downs through AR challenges, you must access them through the open world, NOT through the AR challenge selection on the main menu. Otherwise, the takedowns will not count.

To earn this trophy you must perform each type of predator takedown at least once while playing the game.
You can access the list of all takedowns in game by going to your upgrade menu and then looking through your moves list in the centre of the upgrades categories.

These are the takedowns you must do:
Inverted Takedown
Ceiling Takedown
Fear Multi-Takedown
Vent Takedown
Environment Takedown
Silent Takedown
Knockout Smash
Smoke Pellet Takedown
Window Takedown
Glide Kick
Takedown From Above
Drop Attack
Line Launcher Takedown
Wooden Wall Takedown
Corner Takedown
Perched Takedown
Floor Grate Takedown
Ledge Takedown
Grappel Boost Takedown
Ceiling Grate Takedown (From Above)
Ceiling Grate Takedown (From Below)

I personally just waited until around the end of the game and looked at the list to see whatever ones I knew I definitely hadn't done yet. I did the line launcher takedown and the trophy instantly popped. So you never know, you may just be one or two away from completing this through casual gameplay. Worst case scenario is you don't know what you have and haven't completed so just start at the beginning of the list and work your way through it.

Here is a video by PowerPyx showing each takedown and how to do each of them

I can confirm that you can do all of these in the Predator Fundamental AR challenge, but you have to access it in the game and NOT in the menu in order for it to count. Then it's just a matter of doing these takedowns. What I did was save the last guy for last and used him for the takedowns I needed,. If I had to move him somewhere, I did. Last one I needed was also the Line Launcher takedown and once I did that, the trophy unlocked for me.

There are a total of 21 different predator takedowns in the game, a list of all 21 is shown below. 17 of these are listed in-game, for more information on how and where to perform these 17 predator takedowns you can access the moves list from your Waynetech panel in-game. The bolded entries in the list below do not appear in the moves list but are still unique takedowns that must be performed for the achievement.

  • Swing Down Takedown
  • Drop Attack
  • Knockout Smash
  • Drop Down Takedown
  • Ledge Takedown
  • Corner Cover Takedown
  • Silent Takedown
  • Glide Kick
  • Inverted Takedown
  • Fear Multi-Takedown
  • Smoke Pellet Takedown
  • Grate Takedown
  • Ceiling Takedown
  • Window Takedown
  • Wooden Wall Takedown
  • Wall Grate Takedown
  • Line Launcher Takedown
  • Vent Takedown
  • Environment Takedown
  • Grapple Boost Takedown
  • Ceiling Grate Takedown

Some of these will come naturally as you play through the game, the ceiling takedown when you first find Poison Ivy for example, as such we recommend keeping a checklist and marking each takedown off as you perform them to make tracking the achievement easier.

IMPORTANT: If you are attempting this achievement using the AR challenges you should access the predator challenges from story mode. If you do it from the main menu via AR select it will not register the takedowns properly which is why so many people claim it's glitched. So just start up the challenge from the open world and it should unlock without any problems. See video description for more details.

Important note, make all decisive shots in free play, in DR challenges. Do not select AR challenges from the main menu!

You need to do:

  • Decisive blow after flying down
  • Decisive blow from the ledge
  • Decisive blow after the jump
  • Silent reception
  • Decisive shot from around the corner
  • Capture from height
  • Decisive blow through the bars
  • Decisive blow from the ceiling
  • Decisive blow through the window
  • Decisive blow through the wall
  • Decisive blow from behind the wall bars
  • Decisive Strike with a Rope Launcher
  • Decisive Hook Strike
  • Decisive Strike using Improvised Items (Light Blue)
  • A decisive blow from behind the bars from the ceiling
  • A decisive blow from behind the bars from the ceiling down
All this can be done in the second playthrough or in AR Trials

3-About completing the test. You can restart by pressing O. That’s what I did. But in general, in theory, you can get a trophy by beating the game, the only one you probably didn’t know was by killing the jet launcher.) And now an update has been released, this bug has been removed (which erased all saved maneuvers)

If it doesn't drop, try Ice Decisive Strike - freeze the enemy with Ice Strike (Frieza Grenade from Arkham City) and perform a decisive strike - , And close to the enemy.

In order for decisive strikes to count:

1 - do not select a test from the menu, only directly in the game itself, on the roof of the building;

2 - do not restart the test - this automatically deletes the entire process. Complete the test in the usual way (neutralize all opponents);

3 - Once the test is completed, do not restart it. Press X to end it and start again. The O (start over) button cannot be pressed.

The best place to boost all techniques is the place where the first 5 DR missions are located in the east of the map. We are interested in the one with the machine gun on it. The essence of DR is to kill three randomly spawning enemies. This mission has all the types of cover, bars and walls needed to fulfill the trophy requirements. Go through this mission over and over again and perform the decisive blows you need. Don't forget to use the voice modifier to call the enemy to the desired point on the map

  • do not select a test from the menu, only directly in the game itself, on the roof of the building;
  • Do not restart the test - this automatically deletes the entire process. Complete the test in the usual way (neutralize all opponents);
  • After completing the task, you can restart the task using the B key

You can restart the test and your progress will be saved.
