Noble houses are located in various settlements.
Their contracts will be locked until you reach professional renown level (1050). Once you reach that level, noble contracts become available.
To become allied with a noble house you must keep completing contracts for them until you get the relationship gauge up to “allied” status. This can be tracked in the relationships tab. Their contracts have their house standard decoration on them and are different from normal contracts.
The noble war crisis allows you to side with one of the noble houses and speeds this process up substantially by helping them win major battles against the opposing house. By the time the war was over, I only had to complete a couple more contracts to unlock the achievement.
