How to unlock the Ultimate Hero achievement in Battle Fantasia - Definitive Guide

Set the Arcade Mode to VERY HARD, and one round to limit combat. Continuing is fine, and you may switch characters during a continue if you find that sticking with the same one isn't working.

My strategy, up until End of Deathbringer, was to use Deathbringer's sword attacks. If the enemy was at range, I'd hit the C attack (default Y button). If they worked in close, I would use the D attack (default B button) until I could make space. I generally backed myself into a corner and had the enemy come to me.

For End of Deathbringer, I had a lot more success using Ashley. The reason is the Glance Wing attack, which is quarter-circle forward (QCF) plus either the A or C attack (default X or Y button). This move launches Ashley in a horizontal attack the direction you've pushed. It has a large distance and is a quick move, with a fast recovery.

My entire attack consisted of QCF+Y. Do this right off (you need to build up your Heat Up meter anyway to do meaningful damage). Once the move landed, I would back away (whatever direction did not make me jump over Deathbringer), to escape sword range.

As soon as you have Heat Up, go ahead and trigger it (LT default button). Now you can do damage, and Glance Wing will actually do what it does to all other characters, it knocks them down if they don't block.

So, while in Heat Up, I would QCF+Y, and if Deathbringer blocked I'd back away like when not in Heat Up. If it hits, you'll probably be on the other side of him. Create some distance and fire off QCF+Y as soon as he's getting back up.

One nice thing about Glance Wing is, a lot of attacks Deathbringer does can miss you while you're using it (e.g., his low sword swings). You create distance to protect you from charge attacks (don't fire Glance Wing off if he's using one, you'll just get hurt).

The other nice thing about Glance Wing is dealing with Apocalypse Flame. You'll know when End of Deathbringer is gearing up to use it, because a count-down starts appearing over his body (3... 2... 1... and then you're in trouble). If you can knock Deathbringer down, however, he has to restart his countdown. What does Glance Wing do? It knocks people down!

So, when you see the countdown going, quickly get enough charge for a Heat Up and then turn it on and fire off your trusty QCF+Y. If you knock him down, you know he'll have to start back at 3 in his countdown. Try to do this before he gets to 1 (after 1 even if you are making a successful Glance Wing attack he may get Apocalypse Flame off before the blow lands). But with this in hand, you can shut down his uber assault.

This was my entire method. The biggest risk was getting trapped in a corner; on VERY HARD End of Deathbringer can destroy you quick if he boxes Ashley in. Other than that, just Heat Up and QCF+Y. Took me a few tries but that's what continue is for!

This is a clever idea and I appreciate you taking your time to write it all out. That said, I was not having a lot of luck with this method for Ashley's Glance Wing does very low damage and having Deathbringer's attacks be so lethal I could only get about 1/2 the life gone. It ended up being much easier just to use Deathbringer and spam "y" and hope for the best. Still, I will give you a positive for this is a valid method and probably the best alternative.

I also tried and failed many times with Ashley. What I ended up doing was to use Olivia, and I would store up to 3 stocks of meter before burning. I would jump over Deathbringer whenever possible to avoid his attacks, and try to drive him in a corner. Once there I would burn up and use jumping cn_Y > standing cn_Y and keep up the pressure with standing cn_Y until I was out of range, the birds would help hold him down while I did another jump or re-trigger burn up as necessary.

That being said, there's still an awful lot of luck involved in him not pounding you with superarmored unblockables before you get your meter or before you get him in the corner. It took me about 10 tries.

clear all 9 stages of arcade mode on VERY HARD difficulty with any character, you can continue as many times as you want.
to set the difficulty to very hard go into options-game settings and change the difficulty.
if you have beat arcade on hard, the only hard fight will be the end of deathbringer. i'd suggest using deathbringer and attacking while as far away as possible and when the end of deathbringer flys at you, grapple him when he lands and then jump over him to avoid getting stuck in the corner.
