American characters start with the Thompson; Japanese characters start with the Type 100. LB to switch guns. Both guns count towards the same total; does not need to be 100 with one gun.
Easiest way to do this is to this is to use the spawn kill method here:

Set the match to 100 kills, use the same gun throughout, and you're done.
Obviously go for headshots as well, use the nationality you need for the 500 kill achievements, etc.
