How to unlock the Up close and personal achievement in Battlefield 1 - Definitive Guide
The sword is located in the chapter called "Breakdown" in the second War Story "Through Mud and Blood".
After you got your first engine part you can find the Cavalry Sword on the way to the second part. Pickup the Cavalry Sword and kill an enemy to unlock the sword achievement. Kill 9 more enemies with the Cavalry Sword and the Up close and personal achievement unlocks.
And if you suck at stealth like I do, you will easily get this in the first camp since the melee kills are cumulative and don't reset when reload checkpoints.
To unlock this achievement you need to get ten melee kills anywhere in the campaign. This is cumulative and can be done whenever you wish. You will more than likely get this without trying, but if not, you can melee kill an enemy, then die/reload checkpoint and melee kill that same enemy again to get your ten should this somehow be necessary.
After your tenth melee kill, the achievement will unlock.
This should come naturally while playing through the campaign. All you need to do in order to get this is run up to 10 enemies and press the button in order to initiate a melee kill. It is recommended you do this during your easy playthrough of the campaign in order to make it easier for yourself.
You can exit/enter the campaign whenever you want.
I made a trophy in the very first chapter (mission 2).
Find a hidden cavalry saber in the campaign and use it to kill an enemy in a French village.
After finding it, complete the current achievement. Of course, it can be done with any other melee weapon, but most likely using a cavalry saber will be much easier.
We kill 10 enemies with melee attacks and the achievement is yours.
